For the Bronze Medalist 3:29 Guy / The Guy who spent 2021-22 trying to promote himself as a 3:27 guy. Today gave him a 3:27 race with enough in him to kick. It was only going out at 3:29 pace. And he didn't deliver.
I'm a Josh Kerr fan so not interested in getting any cheapshots in but I do think he would benefit from a coaching/group change. Don't think he and Olli would cope well with it but the OAC is probably the place for him to be right now.
I wouldn't go so far. I think the UK-US Playing field is still quite even
Team USA - Yared 3:29 / Hobbs 3:32 / Cooper 3:32
Team UK - Kerr 3:30 / Gourley 3:30 / Mills 3:33
USA has the strength in PB terms but, The UK still has a stacked team.
My Only criticism isn't really a criticism, Just trying to hold Kerr accountable (which he also claims to want on his Ig). The problem with talking smack in Track and Field (even if you're Jakob) is that it's near-impossible to race at the top at all meets. You're going to have setbacks and making claims about your fitness in training means squat if you can't deliver where it matters — THE RACES.

Look he ran awesome in the Olympic final. 3:29.0 and bronze is no joke. This performance is probably in line with where he was last year at his best. Faster time, but he did run 3:30.60 last year in Oregon in a Championship final. That is positive because he’s ahead of last year at this time, where he ran crap 800, a worse DL in Birmingham and then barely made the British team. Room to improve, but obviously this was as good a chance to run close to his PB as hell get for a bit. He need to be in Tokyo form to land a medal and it hasn’t happened yet but he has 2 months.

I never underminded his 3:29 Bronze. I undermine him saying he's in '3:27 shape' yet he spent all Indoor season ducking the American's top guy — Yared Nuguse. Why race the 3000? since when was he a 3K guy? Guy can barely dip below 13:30 in a 5K.
He's all talk and no action. That's what turns him off as a runner. Jakob atleast is honest, he didn't intend for a World Record at Oslo but still took the dub.
Ninth place makes it seem worse than it was. I’m sure he wants more but 3:30.07 is a great SB at this point and puts him close to being in contention.
My question is where are all these Norwegians coming from?
I think this is a tad rosy, like people who said his Worlds final was better than it was. Today he laid back (56.4/1:52.9) and then he tried to go for it (55.1) and that was it. No more gears. It’s not bad by any means but of the guys who employed the same tactic two completely (Garcia, Habz) crushed him the last lap. And then Nordas ran 54.2 to blow by him. So it was a somewhat conservative race plan and the top-level fitness wasn’t there, which was the problem last year.

He’s not a betting favorite for a medal, but he’s 1.08 seconds from 3:28.xx in June so how bad can it really be? We’ll see what happens but he’s definitely not in that bad a spot right now.
