From vg dot no just now (cant post links):
akob Ingebrigtsen (22) will never run two English miles (3218 metres) again after setting a new world record of 7.54.10. Now he is looking forward to nine other record attempts.
- A little more than expected, says Ingebrigtsen about the new record.
It is Ingebrigtsen's first world record - which came on the somewhat unusual exercise two English miles (not on the Olympic program and not an "official" distance), which is 3218 metres.
The phenomenon from Sandnes broke the old record, and was more than four and a half seconds ahead at the finish line: It clocked in at 7.58.61 and was set by Daniel Komen from Kenya 26 years ago. The European record was Mo Farah's at 8:07.85.
Had the finish line been there, it would have been the third best time (!) of all time in 3000 meters - after Daniel Komen's 7.20.67 and Hicham El Guerrouj's 7.23.09. Ingebrigtsen's time for 3000 meters is 7.27.05 from Rome in 2020.
- It is extremely fast. It's cool, says Jakob Ingebrigtsen, more lightly, in an interview with VG and NRK.
- When I run the third best time of all time during another exercise, that says a lot. But it's about recreating it, and you can see that there is a lot that is possible, says Ingebrigtsen and adds after a short pause for thought:
- Obviously nothing is impossible. But everything in its time. Now it was two English miles, and now I won't have to run it ever again. Now I can only look forward. Now I have taken a world record and have to look forward to nine others.
- Which world records are you aiming for?
- It starts at 1,500 metres, then you just have to work your way up (in distance), answers Ingebrigtsen.
Mo Farah, Eliud Kipchoge and Joshua Cheptegei are strong runners who have failed to take Komen's record in the past.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is now the second Norwegian with a standing outdoor world record in athletics together with Karsten Warholm (45.94 in the 400 meter hurdles). He naturally cheered after finishing while the thermometer showed 31 degrees at the Charlety stadium in Paris.
Along the way, Ingebrigtsen was helped by lights that indicated the old record, as well as hares that pulled the field at the start. From 2,000 meters to the finish line, he did the job himself. He was over fifteen seconds ahead of runner-up, Ishmael Rokitto Kipkurui.
- It is so good, that it is a sign that more records are going to fall. The 5000 meter record is in danger. The 3000 meter record is definitely in danger. It was huge again. Better than we could imagine, said NRK commentator Jann Post.
- So we have a running phenomenon in Jakob Ingebrigtsen. That was an enormous long-distance race, said Vebjørn Rodal, NRK expert and former Olympic champion.
Ingebrigtsen opened the season with a victory in the 1500 meters (time 3:32.59) in Rabat recently. The next race is 1500 meters during the Bislett Games next Thursday. The WC in Budapest towards the end of August is the highlight of the season.
