Quick overview of myself. I’m 6ft and around 170lbs. 18 years old almost 19 and just finished HS and I want to break 4 and run 1:48 as a college freshman.
Here are how my times progressed throughout HS:
Freshman year (25-35mpw)
57
2:07
5:12 1600m
18:08 5k
Sophomore Year (30-40mpw)
53
1:59
4:42 1600m
17:24 5k
Junior year (30-40mpw)
51
1:55
4:29 1600m
16:37 5k
Senior Year
23.3 tripped at the start
49.6
1:52
4:12 1600m
15:49 5k
Senior Year I was avg 45-50mpw during XC and 30-40 during Track
I did do weight training in HS but I had to be very careful because I can put on muscle fast so I really just stuck to plyometrics and calisthenics.
I don’t see myself as being highly gifted. I don’t really have a large aerobic engine. I would say I have good speed endurance though. My workouts are typically a much higher caliber then what I actually end up running in races.
( I don’t think I got the most out of myself senior year and most my workouts reflect that)
Example: I just did a workout that consisted of a warm up 600 at 67 sec then 5mins rest to a 57 seconds 400m 5mins rest. Then 3x2x200m with 6-8mins rest in between sets and 45 secs in between 200’s. I did 26,25,24,23.9,24,11.9 . (This isn’t a typical workout for me as I was helping a professional but I was able to complete the majority)
If there is one thing I’m good at it is NOT getting injured. My HS coach always says that I am the most robust athlete he has ever coached. I have never been really injured everything heals within 3 days and I’ve never taken time off due to pains. I guess the only other physical characteristics to note that is I’m very inflexible. My hamstrings and tendons are very tight. I can not touch my toes in fact I can barely reach past my knees. I have tried everything to improve this and nothing works for me.
I’m not afraid of injury and quite frankly I don’t think it will ever really become a problem. That being said I want to boost my mileage drastically in the coming months of base training like to 75mpw with doubles and maybe even double thresholds.
I will have a coach that will be giving me training but I would like to know what you guys think a rough outline for me should be/ training plan. I will be training XC as a base and most likely focusing on the 800m/1500m.
I want to be great and get the most out of myself. I’m not afraid to do what most would call stupid training. I’m up to try anything! :)
