He had already front run, some 7 seconds clear, a 3:59.91 this season. Therefore, when I saw that he was entered in a quality BMC 'B' race, then I was expecting him to run 3:57/3:58 and take the record. He ended up running in the 'A' race, so I presume they must have changed the start list for him on the day. It is mental that he ran 3:54.
I was running low 4:30's at his age, but I didn't train regularly and I probably could have run low 4:20's, if I had taken myself seriously. I find it kind of irritating to know that someone could have hammered me by 30 seconds or so, even at my hypothetical best. Ha ha ha.
