They could have annihilated the 4xMile record but they didn't. Have 3 guys capable of sub 4 and then their 4th guy is Brayden Seymour who has run 4:07. Record is 17:04 for 4xmile and 16:41 for 4x1600. No math needed...they would obliterate that record and make it basically untouchable.
They could have beaten the 4x800 record which is 7:28. They have 3 guys capable of sub 1:50 and Brayden Seymour who has only ran 1:57 but he is clearly better than that based off of his 4:07. If Leo/Lex/Sahlman all run 1:50 and Seymour runs a 1:55, thats a 7:25 right there. Throw them in Penn Relays with the college 4x800 and that HS record is toast.
DMR record is 9:49. Are you telling me they wouldn't be able to break that? I'm saying it's possible Newbury Park could have beaten it.
Then there's the Arcadia 2-mile. Birnbaum and Simmons ripping 8:34 and putting on a legendary HS-only 2-mile. Now imagine adding Lex, Leo, and Sahlman to that. Would have been absolutely insane and must-watch racing.
But they didn't do any of these things. And it makes me a little sad. Hate to sound like I'm taking away from other big performances and athletes, but this TEAM was undeniably goated and they could have re-written the record books.
