Amazing HS State Meet Results Thread - 2023 Edition

And I'll go first: Tyrone Gorze just ran 8:04 for 3000m (off the front of a fast race) in Oregon's state meet. Only Rupp has ever run faster out here in Oregon. And his race was fast all around with 5 guys under 8:30:

1. Tyrone Gorze - 8:04.60a PR
2. Logan Law - 8:18.08a PR
3. Nathan Stein - 8:27.42a PR
4. Mason Weisgerber - 8:28.41a PR
5. Hayden Boaz - 8:28.92a [a 10th grader]

I just saw that! 11.11 as a junior girl is amazing. Every race she runs is fun to watch.

Back in the day, I really liked Michael Johnson's form (because watching him, I didn't expect him to be sooo fast) and Mia Brahe-Pedersen is the same way. You know she's good but she isn't a "typical" sprinter at all. She is one of a kind, for sure!

p.s. The girl in second place is Sophia Beckmon and she is a 21 foot long jumper! They both grew up a few miles from each other!

Bandukwala finished third in the 3200 earlier in the meet. So when I saw him off the back in dead last the first three laps of the 1600, I thought he was cooked from the earlier effort.

At the bell, the leader Mines had a 4 second gap on the field and a 7 second gap on Bandukwala. I was focusing on Mines when I heard the crowd go nuts and saw Bandukwala explode down the backstretch and pass the entire chase pack. Caught Mines with 100 to go and won convincingly.

What a fun race to watch. Hopefully there is a video soon.
