What you guys want people to run races and never show emotion. I've lost to people who celebrated and NEVER cared or even thought about it. I was probably fustrated at losing lol. Celebrate your win you earned it.
We don't want runners turning into Kawhi Leonard lol
There needs to be another form of penalizing an athlete in this situation (not that I think he deserves a penalty). A DQ is so severe and it's a relay too. Dock them team points or something. In a DQ or nothing situation a dq is almost always too severe.
You are skipping the important part of the rule “unacceptable behavior” which he already knows this is and did it anyway.
Why is celebrating unacceptable behavior under that rule? Like I said, it was just the official making it an arbitrary rule, then DQing him for not following that arbitrary rule. Celebrating is objectively a good thing, not a bad thing. You celebrate birthdays, mother's day, wins, accomplishments, getting a raise, reaching retirement, etc. When is celebration a bad thing? We've already ruled out taunting, which he was not guilty of.
I disagree with those that say he should be DQ'd because even if it wasn't an official rule not to celebrate, the official spelled that out before the race. I say stand up to the man when they are arbitrary and unjust. He should proudly take that DQ. I take it you are against people like Rosa Parks.
I won a Maryland State Championship decades ago and I raised my hand with my index finger up a few feet before I crossed the finish line. According to the rules I should be DQ’d? Holy Cow…
A guy in another division my freshman year was so pumped up he was yelling out and doing a lot more than this young man x20 and nobody was screaming for the guillotine.
I especially remember when Eamonn Coughlin at the 83 Worlds was passing into first with about 130m to go and elation was the emotional response while shaking his fists in front of him. I wanted to emulate him throughout school.
Usain Bolt was respectful but the best thing for track in my lifetime but these over zealous officials need their tails cut.

But when you KNOW you are going to be DQd for this since you just were, I really don't understand why you do it again and why is there some form of outrage about it.
If this kid was black then did the exact same thing, do you think Maryland HS Track would survive the media, possibly nationally being so close to DC, potentially scrutinizing the DQ?
Sprinters are more celebratory in victories and I love that. Track is a beautiful sport and these DBs are messing with the kids enjoying life.
I played a few sports in high school and beyond and I can’t remember ever having seen anything so ridiculous for a young athlete to emulate the greatest athlete of the sport and be DQ’d for it.
But when you KNOW you are going to be DQd for this since you just were, I really don't understand why you do it again and why is there some form of outrage about it.
Because this is racism against whites. Everyone knows who REALLY won all these races, everyone knows WHY the white guy is really being DQed. So let this young man keep it up until they stop DQing him or they let this keep growing in attention to Black Privilege and racism against non blacks (and whites most especially).

Grow up.
You grow up. My entire life has been as a last class citizen, as was that of my father before, and much of my grandparents before, and now my children are becoming adults in a society where they discrimination against them in education and employment isn't just allowed but REQUIRED by the government.

Race has nothing to do with this (ridiculous) disqualification.

Stop making excuses and grow up.
It has everything to do with race. Flip this to white officials DQing the sole black sprinter and this would be national news, the government would be investigating already. You know it, but go ahead and shame yourself if want to try and deny it.
Back to track and field business, he is committed to the University of Georgia and if he doesn't make it in the sprints, he might convert to the multis, as he has 10.15/20.59 but also is 6'3" 200 lb, according to the internet, and has marks of 44'5 SP, 5'4" hj, and 23'7" long jump. The hj and shot would surely improve a lot with college coaching.

Good lord. Nothing like killing the kid's enthusiasm for the sport.
I agree. How can we keep stars in this sport when they can celebrate even beyond this in sports like football, soccer and lacrosse?
Exactly.
We have a State Champion relay team getting tossed because the anchor raised his arms. Meanwhile, kids are watching the NBA and see players having fun, making little celebratory movements or gestures that don't hurt anyone, and there is no punishment or penalty.
Here's a video of NBA players reacting to making three-pointers. If these track officials had their way, all of these guys would be getting technical fouls. Instead, because the powers that be in basketball know how to grow the game, this is recognized as part of the game.

Want there just a whole episode with the womens ncaa tournament where one team felt butt-hurt because the other team disrespected not only her team but the team before them? She got so upset she had to do her own taunting when they actually won the game. That's what the taunting can lead to.
