WTF. Track and Field News says Yared Nuguse is only the #3 1500 runner in the US right now, behind Teare & Thompson

I knew these guys were out of date when they stopped updating the sub-4 milers list because of super shoes. They strike me as a bunch of boomers who love to yell at clouds.

Why is hocker even on this list? When was the last time he even ran a 1500?

We'll see how he fares against Jakob on Sunday. Gotta be a lot of pressure on Yared at this point. You can't win them all but he is easily #1 in US.

Centrowitz at 10? I know he's got history but there are at least a dozen collegiates who could take him in a 1500 right now

The rankings aren’t based on 2023 performances. Did you even bother to read the intro? It says clearly:

“The Top 10s (the number in the right-hand column represents the athlete’s placing in last year’s U.S. Rankings”

And I didn't list the right hand column. I listed the left-hand column. Those are this year's rankings.

Back in the day; (we’re talking WAY back in the day), I was a mega-fan of Track & Field News. Had STACKS of the actual magazine and eagerly waited for each issue. Those sat right alongside of stacks of Runner’s World, etc.

Neither of them are not relevant anymore.

Both have their information sitting behind paywalls to even read something and Track & Field News has appeared to have gotten quite big for its britches as it doesn’t even have a monthly fee option, it’s just flat-out yearly all-at-once, take it or leave it (not even a trial period).

They also omitted Britton Wilson from the 400m on the women’s list lol

TFN lost their distance guru when subscriptions dried up and they went digital only. So I'm guessing the Sprint/Hurdle/Throws guys putting together these lists.

And I've got no problem with them charging. I think they have a metered paywall and some of their profiles are pretty good. I use a lot of their lists all the time for lrc articles.

Anyways, that 1500 ranking is atrocious. Ignoring Nuguse, how in the world do you have Drew Hunter ahead of Sam Prakel? Prakel won USA indoors, Hunter was 10th. Prakel also beat him at Millrose.

Yes I know Hunter ran 0.06 faster than Prakel last year but that's a joke.

I guess they assume she is running the 400h but Wilson should still be #1 in 400 flat regardless. In the 5000, Valby ranked ahead of Tuohy - WTF?? It’s like Tuohy’s collegiate record never happened?

The list is worthless if we don't know how they compiled it. Or if it is just some guy winging it, also worthless.

There must be a numerical system they are using to determine their top ten, but they don't say what it is.

It looks like they might be factoring in potential based on big races from past years, but the list doesn't always follow that.

Track and field news is a fossil. They don't even try pretend they're moving with the times.

For me the funniest thing still is how Nike still use the T&F News end of year rankings to decide performance bonuses and reductions. Imagine getting reduced 25-50% of your annual salary at the whim of the geniuses who came up with these rankings.

They're especially bad IMO in middle distance events and heavily impacted by who raced most recently.

I swear half their subscribers are Nike affiliated agents/coaches/athletes who pay to check what's happening to their bank account.

Since you're the resident genius, surely you realize these are form charts people are discussing, not rankings? Do you know the difference? Form charts are basically one person's predictions about placings at a specific meet. Do keep up, old chap.

I am agreeing with the general sentiment of this thread that the magazine is out of touch and bad.

Then I am going on a related tangent by talking about what I find the craziest thing about the magazine, which is how Nike athletes can gain or lose thousands of dollars based on the whims of its EOY rankings.

Anyway, clearly found one of the magazine's four subscribers!
