I used to live in the North and that was safe, and the South’s reputation is overhyped except for a few certain streets (not just the whole neighborhood) in certain neighborhoods*. As in, even in the “bad” neighborhoods you won’t get shot randomly.
What neighborhood is it in?
*the exceptions are Garfield Park and Englewood. Avoid these if you can - they’re the worst in the city
It's Englewood but I looked it up on Niche and the crime rate is below or at the national average. Murder rate is 5.6 compared to 6.4, but assault is 508 vs 282.7
I would just read the reviews from people who have stayed there. Cities are big and vary block to block in terms of who lives there and what kind of scene it is. A friend of mine lives in a neighborhood with a bad reputation (not in Chicago). Reading the news you'd never want to go there, but his neighbors are almost entirely elderly immigrants who are friendly, quiet, and keep well maintained houses. So just see what people say about the place. If there's daily drive-bys next door, it'd never succeed as a rental and I think you'd find that out.
If you actually chose this AirBnB, I hope you were unscathed. I also had seen a couple of very cheap ones but they're all in the worst neighborhood(s).
How is this thread racist? He's asking a perfectly legitimate question about safety in Chicago.
You seem to be assuming that crime is committed by certain non-white groups. Educate yourself and do better - isn't that belief inequitable and not inclusive?
The loser literally bumped a thread pretending to be someone else and then slipped up and posted under the same handle again. So embarrassing, so pathetic.
