Elon Musk says work-from-home is "morally wrong," slams the "laptop class" of society

I work perfectly well from home. I can finish breakfast, get a coffee and join a meeting in a couple minutes vs 90 minutes on the metro, and 90 more minutes home at the end of the day. Three hours of commute would take a lot out of me. There's really no aspect of my work that would be improved by being in the room with some MFs.

I'd say if he had to endure what a normal person has to on a commute he'd change his opinion but he knows, and he's glad we're suffering.

I work well from home as well. I answer emails at night and weekends and address problems any time they surface.

As far as I am concerned, Musk is a rich dick-head who only has the public's ear because he is a rich dick-head.

Musk is a mentally unstable billionaire who thinks that the general population existes to enrich his bank accounts.

The haters don't want to listen Elon is saying. It's time for people to learn some compassion. Think about hotel maids. Think about warehouse employees. These people are going into work, in person every. single. day. It is very unfair to them that the rest of are allowed to work from home. It is messed up. In fact, to take Mr. Musk's sage assertion to it's logical conclusion, it is also very unfair and, in fact, immoral for laptop "workers" to accept higher wages, fewer working hours, or longer vacations than blue collar workers. Everyone should be equal. (Ever heard of the constitution??) Of course, there must be some exceptions for bosses/owners and upper management.

Is it moral to spend 1 hour each way driving into an office to do a job that you can do remotely?

Is it moral when in office employees spend more time gossiping at the water cooler than doing productive work?

I don't see this as a morality issue, but a convenience one.

Go ahead continue to accept a full wage sitting on your arse in your living room with a cocktail. AI is going to wipe out the laptop class soon enough.

I do not like working from home although with my job I could. Heck our organization could save a lot of money not renting offices and maybe pass that along to staff.

Yet I do not think "morality" has anything to do with it. Some jobs and some people function well working from home; others do not. If Musk does not want to allow it then he can say so for his workers. Some will bail for a job that allows it and he likely will find others who want to come in. That is how a free market works.

A great many of the people working for him can. The number of people who must be on site is likely pretty small. Their accountants and finance people probably never need to be site.

The person drilling holes, yeah needs to be there.

I have a room in my house that's a dedicated office and I take my work seriously. I dress nicely from the waist up and don't drink alcohol.

Funny thing about the waist down thing... Had a guy I know bragging the other week about how he and a woman would get it on during working hours, a woman who was supposed to be his employee. They both work from home at the same company. Seems like a huge joke to me. You guys are unemployed in my eyes.
