Wow, I had no idea he was 61. I would have guessed at most 50.
Yes, they inspired a lot of people. I only wish the statue of them was closer to the start line so everyone can see it as they go across the line. I didn't know where to look last time I ran Boston so I missed it.
Faster PR than a certain Mooseland script author
Oh no!
I recall happening upon father and son competing in a triathlon about 20 years ago. Saw this guy swimming towing an inflatable dinghy behind him and looked them up.
A truly inspiring story of parenting, and a testament to the joy of running/ triathlon / competition / participation.
I noted that dad handed over the racing a couple years ago.
I just might see if someone needs a pusher/ guide/ helper.
Pay it back a bit in his honor
I hope there's an afterlife where they can be together.
Bro you do so much talking about Greg and other people but don’t mention your PR. What is YOUR PR big boy? easy to talk when you don’t back it up, my little pink pony.
Amazing story and life. His parents were told he had severe brain damage and would never be able to communicate. But his parents refused to give up and he lived an inspiring life.

A true Icon and hero to the sport. Rick was always one of my favorite runners and yes he has always earned the title of a runner! Very sad to hear of his passing. You can now run the Marathon side by side with your father! Heaven has gained a true hero!
Rest in Peace, Rick Hoyt.
You and your father opened my eyes to the ways that everyone can enjoy this sport.
I remember an interview with him, I believe on NPR, and they asked him what he would wish for, and he answered that one day he could push his Dad. Saw them in Boston one year, what an inspiration they both are!
R.I.P. Rick
Incredible, that his father was able to run a 2:40 marathon at Boston while pushing Rick while in his 50's! Incredible story.
R.I.P. Rick and Dick Hoyt
Legends, for all the right reasons.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
