I believe the fact that Asafa Powell has a brother named Donavan is entirely coincidental. Some idiot at T & F N wrote "Donovan" thinking of Donovan Bailey for some reason, and the mistake never got noticed... sort of a "woods for the trees" scenario. Others have attacked T & F N for this but it really is silly to do so... sh*t happens sometimes. T & F N probably makes less mistakes than any other sports publication is history... which is especially admirable due to the stat-heavy aspect of the sport and T & F N itself. I am really puzzled why there are T & F N- haters out there.
Spoken by a loyal 47 year subscriber but still very far from senile.

because they don't provide TIMELY information. check out their world record page. still got old WR's on there that have broken.
someone posted on there that there was a WR yesterday in the women's 5k at BIG. i checked TFN to confirm, and sure enough, she had, right?
nope. they hadn't updated their website since 2003, and still had old records on there.
it's all about TIME. they send me an issue in january with the results of NCAA cross country - an event that happened 2 months ago! they wait until the november issue to give me a preview of the NCAA cross country season...great just in time for the regionals, and they don't know who is hurt/who is running well, etc.
the internet is killing them. when chris barnicle signs a letter of intent to go to arkansas, i know about it THAT DAY by reading dyestat (and maybe even before by reading the message boards.) TFN makes me wait until october (5 months after the fact) to tell me. when ritz gets hurt, i hear it here first. he's already healed and back running (and probably hurt again) by the time they put it in print.
i used to love TFN, but now i find myself reading less and less articles, because i actually know the information already!
Why the hell hasn't tnf tried to update/re-vamp their website and make it more competitve? It really wouldn't cost them that much money. It would also help them regain what they are losing.
RE instate SATCH or I'll kick yo ass.

OK, I'll bite the bait. Which T&FN idiot was it? How did you read the mind of said T&FN idiot? If said T&FN idiot was thinking Donovan Bailey then why didn't the front page simply say Donovan Bailey? Why would it be mere coincidence that Asafa's brother is named Donovan? Is it mere coincidence that Donovan was an outstanding sprinter himself, coming within a short-hair of an NCAA 100 title?
You're closer to senility than you think.

well malmo at least you have not changed.... try charm school, it might help but I doubt it.
It's just my theory why somebody at T&FN made the mistake. Maybe that was not it... what difference does it make ? Get over it, move on to something more important, like improving your personality. Or go read your old clippings if that will thrill you.

Someone didn't have breakfast this morning?
Gavrilo:
I think your remarks about Track & Field News are very constrctive criticism and also right on the mark. I have no quarrrel with the lateness of the information as ultimately delivered in the magazine; it's a monthly, so that's that. However, you are completely correct about the deficiencies of their website stats. In the magazine, they do a great job of citing in all results where a particular marks stands on US and World lists AT THAT EXACT TIME; if they know it then, why not post it in the stat paret of the website too ?! I would like to see them have an up-to-the-DAY running All-time performer and performance list, both US and World. It just needs to be the job of one person there to do it as needed, be it once a month, once a week, or 4 times a day or whatever. As to the Records listings, show all records not yet ratified with a "p".
Having said all that I hope any T&FN bashers ( you are not one Gavrilo) might remember that T&FN, and only T&FN, is providing all of us with a written record of the sport, and in a very professional and accurate manner. Pulling out those old issues to find information, stories, etc. is something no one else does for the sport. Aficionados should at a minimum save all issues with Nationals, Worlds, Olympics, Annual Lists and Rankings.
Has the Internet cut into T&FN's value for immediate news ? Absolutely. Has it eliminated the magazines vital place for fans ? Not in my opinion at least.
So to repeat, agreeing with you, if they could ramp up their website stats with more breadth and timeliness, then their website also might be able to justify the magazine's self-named motto of " Bible of the Sport."

Steve:
I used to own a pretty neat De Soto at one time and thought t was the best car ever. Gary and the gang over at TFN have let time pass them by. Sad, but true. You are here defending them, so I must assume you get most of your track and field news from the internet, ie. you have a computer hooked up to the internet. Sorry, but their website is pretty much missing the target and they just don't want to change anymore. I would guess that as long as they get some readership, enough to pay the bills and provide some retirement money, they are ok with that. IF, and only IF, track and field were actually a vehicle for making some big bucks, TFN would be in the thick of it fighting for their spot. But, being such a small niche sport, they just continue to coast along in their De Soto...
Seeeing the new 2010 world rankings posted here the bigger error is in the bottom half of the rankings.

Trying to figure out how a guy who went unbeaten vs Frater and LeMaitre and had a 2-1 record vs Rodgers and had a sequence of adjusted times for top 5 times of the year better than these 3 as well. Plus had wins over Thompson and Daniel Bailey as well can not be ranked. TFN didn't even follow its own ranking system or made a major gaffe. Seeing the other gaffes I am going to assume they just blew it.
Since many of us here do not follow the sprinters in depth would you please tell us who got left off?

TAFN are the original T&F fan boys. They don't need to make money. They fake like they are press to weasel out credentials. Volunteers have made sports what it is. Every sports federation and league relies on dedicated volunteers like TAFN to help out.
You see dozens of photogs on the sidelines at NFL games and maybe 4 or 5 have made a living since they were young from photos. The rest are doctors, lawyers, ex-players, retired HS coaches, rich wannabes/posers, and groupies. How do I know ? I'm one of those photogs. I own a chain of retail food stores ;-)
Walter Dix, 9.88, missing from rankings?
Yes Dix is missing despite a better season than Rodgers and so are Trell Kimmons and Ryan Bailey. Kimmons had better record vs 8, 9 and 10 and overall time average better than all 3. Bailey ran 9.88 and was unbeaten against Frater and Lemaitre and had 3 wins on Rodgers and just one loss. Like Kimmons his time average was better than Frater and Rodgers and while Lemaitre had faster raw time average when converted for win Kimmons and Bailey were superior. Totally bogus rankings for sure. TFN needs to come clean on how they made such decisions. Lots of money on the line in these rankings not to mention TFN's credibility.
Think Dix is ranked no.1 in 200
