Men’s team just placed outside of the top 15 at regionals behind teams like Valpo Oakland and Southern Indiana. Any one knows what’s up? No scholarships?

The staff, post-Helmer, is a joke. Recruits go into visits optimistic, and leave disappointed. The coaches lie to potential recruits as well. The new staff has run off all of their competent support staff, and pissed off the IHSAA enough that they will not return the state high school track and field meet to IU until at least Beathea and probably more are gone.

Nobody gives a damn about the Indiana HS state meet. Its a joke and not a real championship meet. They just run sections and the fastest time wins and places the top seeded person in lane one for every race. Its a joke. Nothing to do with IU and its coaching staff. Sounds like a fragile loser hating to me.
There’s literally 1 section of the 1600 and 3200. The 100, 110h, and 200 have qualifiers and finals. The other events are seeded based on the times from regionals, so there is a “fast” heat even though I guess technically someone else could win from another heat, but that would be very rare. Also it’s a true state championship, big and small schools all in the same races. What are you talking about?
It can’t be a recruiting issue they have some serious firepower coming out of high school. They are getting beat by programs with less talent so that goes to the development by the coaches which appear to be completely absent with the results. The kid from Illinois started the season very strong and then finished lackluster. I would jump in the portal immediately.
Apparently red shirted their top guys… however, the talent of their squad they did race out of high school was rather solid.
And to an earlier poster’s point… they get way too much talent on the boys and girls side to finish where they have. Would start thinking about not recruiting around Hamilton County and the surrounding areas.
These HCs wanna keep hiring the names when there’s so many unknown coaches that could do a much better job because they don’t have an ego and will grind til the team improves he may he past that stage and just making a check til his kids are adults and retire that’s a real thing and I completely understand If that’s where he’s at.
If you can’t coach solid high school talent to finish better than what you did at regionals it doesn’t matter how many and who you redshirt. The end result will be poor performances by talented kids next year. I watched the Naley kid at Indiana run early in the season and he was very impressive and I thought they had hope then as I followed him he got worse every meet. I don’t say this often but i agree about the portal.
WTF are you talking about? No one cares about the state championship meet? In what world are you living? And the fact that the meet is not at IU has everything to do with the current coaching and facility staff. Beathea pissed off the IHSAA and former facility staff to no end. Fired most of Helmer's assistants. What's the team done lately? Nothing, that's what.

The only state in the lower 48 to have one true state champion for every event, including cross country. It's a truly special meet. Ask Cole Hocker.
Some seriously stupid takes being thrown around here, I am assuming most aren't actually following the team. IU is redshirting their top guys this season and running the bare minimum roster, either graduating seniors or younger guys that need to develop (and earn their scholarship, some of them are not progressing well at all).
But then on that note, the recruiting has been solid the past couple of years, they are just now getting through the rest of Helmer's terrible roster from when he retired. This team was a mess when he left.
We haven't really seen what Heins is capable of yet, he needs to prove he knows what he is doing having redshirted his entire long-term roster, and they need results next season, but this is clearly a rebuild year for the team.

To be fair, Bethea did retain four of Helmer’s assistants, but he let go of Jay Athur who was Helmer’s son in law who was on the track staff and managed the track facilities and home meets. He replaced Jay with coaches that would coach and recruit rather than run meets. Jay is pretty well connected to the IHSAA and now runs the indoor track at the state fairgrounds, so it was just a matter of time before they pulled the outdoor state meet to go somewhere else. Jay was still helping run the state meet at north central. It’s not any more complicated than that.

New Jersey has a Meet of Champions with one winner for the whole state in track and cross country.

And do any of the losers of that meet still call themselves state champions of their respective class/division, if so then not the same as a single champion from a single meet.
