List of NCAA schools that don’t have track, some lie about it!

I recruit at a D1 school and hear it all the time about Northwestern women sponsoring track - but they don’t. They don’t even have it listed as a sport on their website.

maybe Portland state doesn’t fit men??

After more looking it seems Creighton has a qualifier and thus has recently added track, good for them and let’s keep that trend going… xc and no track is just a title 9 mockery of the rules and an obvious sign the school doesn’t care about either sport!

Interesting, Northwestern clearly has athletes that compete in some big meets (Drake, Bryan Clay, etc), but it's 1) just distance events (1500 and up) and no Big 10 Track Championship. Kinda dream TBH for cross country minded athletes who don't like track...

In the ASUN Conference, the following schools sponsor Men’s Cross Country but not Track:

Austen Peay

Florida Gulf Coast

Jacksonville University

Jacksonville State University

North Alabama

Stetston

Murray State University has Men's XC but no Track.

The WCC, 8-9 schools and one has a track facility. Surprisingly a ton of regional qualifiers.

what is worse is offering the sport but with almost zero support

Loyola ( MD), Toledo, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Robert Morris. All on mens side. They all have Track and Field for women.

You can run meets as part of a school sponsored club team, but not conference or nationals. There are ways to get around it, by peaking for a big open meet around the sametime like la track fest, music city track carnival, etc. Its not quite the same, but who cares where you set your prs - run fast enough and you will go to usatf nats.

My daughter competes for Northwestern. They sponsor track. They compete at the biggest meets such as BU and UW and Notre Dame amd Bryan Clay. It is a unique situation in that they can't compete in the Big 10 but they get listed in TFRRS. It is a great situation because they aren't bogged down on logistical issues getting to and from the locations because they don't have to schedule around other event groups.

No they don't sponsor track. Having a club team with funding and a coach isn't the same as sponsoring the sport.

It isn't club. It is sponsored by the athletic department just like other sports. It counts against Title IX. Check TFRRS. Check official meet results. Check with the coach. She coaches them and the university pays for their travel and they run in uniform. The team doctors treat them. They use all of the facilities.They get thousands of dollars of gear during track season. They travel in the team bus when less than 5 hours. They have a special charter unique to them.

Northwestern sucks. How did they do at B1G?

Seattle University.

They were DFL in the WAC, and it’s hard to get DFL in that conference. That team is a bad Division II Team in D1. You get the feeling that they have track and cross country just to have Title IX compliance.

They don’t “sponsor track” they are allowed to run a few track meets in the off season from xc per ncaa rules… it basically like gaveling a track team but they can’t qualify for ncaa, basically they are like Portland state right now… they went to meets and stuff but didn’t actually end up sponsoring the sport so fast kids can’t run at ncaa champs.

I am 5 years out of College and I could go run a race unattached and be on TFRRS. Being on TFRRS has nothing to do with your school sponsoring the sport lol

Sorry Northwestern does not SPONSOR track & field. To sponsor track according to NCAA policy you MUST attend 4 indoor and 4 outdoor competitions with 14 athletes. And if you attend 4 indoor and 4 outdoor competitions you MUST then by Big 10 rules compete in the Big 10 championship. Northwestern allows distance runners to attend three meets and have it paid for. That is nice for them but they do not sponsor the sport. Go to NCAA sports sponsorship and you will not see Northwestern listed. Let's try not to be disingenuous about what Northwestern does. They have the funding to have a full program but don't want to spend the cash.

I thought that Georgetown uses some high school track?

It isn't a club, but is not a track team. Northwestern DOES NOT sponsor track & field per NCAA rules. If they did they would have athletes eligible to compete in the NCAAs and the Big Ten. They don't. It is a cross country team that is allowed to compete in X number of meets in the off-season. This is the same as the Northwestern soccer team playing games in the spring. They don't count because they are not part of the traditional season.

What kills track is there is no roster minimum, maximum, and it’s counted as three sports some places 1 sport other places.

For a lot of mid majors especially track is an accounting tool for the athletic department to balance all the stupid NCAA requirements.

It will lead to most schools doing the absolute bare minimum and having zombie teams
