Say it ain’t so Rhonex! It seems you were too good to be true. But at least we know Eliud is clean. Like he has to be clean at age 38. Setting world records at age 37. Right?
Kenyan athlete and 10km road race world record holder Rhonex Kipruto has been provisionally suspended for an anti-doping violation, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said on Wednesday.
No no no no. He posted that on November 30th, which was over 5.5 months ago. He said it was a Lance Armstrong level bust. He was full of crap. Obviously people are getting banned. But Rhonex is nowhere near Lance Armstrong. Anyone will be correct if they predict athletes will be banned.
So yesterday we had a former world U20 10000m bronze medallist busted, today we have a former world u20 10000m gold medallist busted, and people were arguing on the El G thread that he was clean because he was an outstanding junior.
Not gonna lie. This one hurts. Something was off with him the past couple of years and someone here raised a red flag when he failed to show up for a bunch of local meets or participate in the world XCs.
Many that this board likes to point to tend to be irrelevant no-names who are made to seem more important than they are. Most have no chance of making any teams to represent the country. But not Rhonex. He's a true Kenyan elite and it would be foolish to pretend otherwise.
*sigh* 😔 Keep telling myself there's light at the end of the tunnel. Hope this is the last big one.
The Kenyan athletes are already doping as juniors. An advantage beyond outright cheating to win the junior races is this helps manipulate the athlete's biological passport, making subsequent doping harder to detect.
Maybe Brother Colm isn't as saintly as they'd make you believe...
No, I wouldn't blame Bro Colm for this. He's trained hundreds over the years and there no discernible pattern of his athletes getting busted. What we seem to have here is the all-too-familiar case of a runner whose performances appear to have declined so he sought chemical assistance, possibly by himself.
