This weekend at BIG 10 the Maryland men score 4 points and the women scored 7 for last in both genders. Looking at the other big conferences, only one other team scored single digits, all the rest were higher and usually more like 20 points. No other school was last in both genders, most who were last in one gender were mid-pack in the other, and Clemson won the men's while being last in women's. The combined point totals are by far the lowest in any conference, so I don't think there is a debate about Maryland being the worst track team in a big conference, they clearly are.
So the question is, are they the worst combined track team ever? I can't recall another time in a big conference where both teams scored single digits, even bad teams usually have one or two standouts and scratch out some relay points. Another way to think of it, Maryland women's track is fully funded at 18 scholarships for $58k per year, so they just paid $150k per point at BIG 10's! Yikes!
