Ran a 1:50.85 in the semis at the SEC meet last night and did not qualify for the final. Will Sumner meanwhile, that so many of the Cade Flatt fans promised would get smoked by Flatt, had the fastest qualifying time about 3 seconds fast than Flatt.

What has happened to all of the Flatt fanboys that were here last year and proclaiming him to be the next big American half miler? They've been pretty quiet this season.
A lot of people were saying that thought he was already at his peak when he was in high school because he already looked like he was about 25 years old and was a lot more mature physically than other high schoolers. I doubted those people but am now wondering if they were right.

I was somewhere in between. There was a camp that seemed to have their head in the sand about him being in high school a year longer than most, being pretty much completely physically developed, and having been a top-level athlete since his pre-teen years. That doesn't profile to the guy that will be able to jump 4 levels (a la Brazier). And similar to Natalie Cook, I took the (allegedly) extremely low amount of running to be a negative because being able to handle to more training is a huge plus in the 800+. That being said, he's had so many injuries this year I think you can pretty much write it off. If he lets himself get fully healthy I don't see any reason why he couldn't be a 1:46-1:47 guy next year. He shouldn't have "peaked," but there might not be a huge jump but more a progression to 1:45 and knocking on the door of US teams (if the down era continues).

They were predicting him to break the American record and make the US team last year----NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a fan and want to see what he can accomplish, but the AZZHOLES on here have no clue. I wish him the best and much success.
I blame the ole miss coaches, you can't just take a young child like Cade and crank up their mileage to 6 miles a week in your quest for personal glory.
He should have been protected, maybe another year or 2 in high school would have been good for him?

on the other side, will sumner still looks like a kid and is splitting 44s in the 400

First year of college, I'd say Sumner had a little back and forth. Won indoor SECs but barely qualified for nationals thanks to scratches. Then show terrible tactics and gives up on trying to win in the finals for NCAAs, comes back and splits a 44.76 on anchor for 2nd in the 4x4. Kicks off Outdoors with a bang, 2:58 4x4 with a 44 split and the 2nd fastest collegiate relay ever. Then only runs 46.7-47.1 in his 3 open 400ms while only having a 1:50.7 outdoor best heading into Outdoor SECs. Then drops the fastest prelim time at SECs. Point being, it's freshman year, people have ups and downs, Cade had a pretty serious injury and probably shouldn't have stepped foot on a track until April this year but he decided to run Millrose and all the following races. Look at Colin Sahlman. People were ready to write him off and blame NAU after a rough indoors but he's now setting prs and looking a lot better.

dude looked a 26 year old as a high schooler. most top distance runners and mid distance guys look like they are 12 in high school. he was the rare exception.
Thought Sumner was going to shock the world by now? 1:47 is high school level. Thought he was supposed to be 1:43 by now. That's what you were saying last year. What happened?? Your hero is a dud

literally nobody said sumner was going to run 1:43 by now
what is happening in reality though, is that sumner is splitting 44s and flatt is splitting 47s.
sumner could never run an 800 again and go pro as a 400 runner.

Of course they were. At least half the lib fanboys were stomping their fungus laden feet that he was going to be the special one. There was talk of 1:42. 1:41. I know a lot of those libs are changing their handles now because they can see he's not going to achieve anything of significance. They want to hide

MCFGA
MAKE CADE FLATT GREAT AGAIN
(But honestly, reading between the lines your post indicates you have some bizarre far right extremist white nationalist views, OR you are a varsity troll).

How many high schoolers run 1:47 per year? Are you seriously scoffing at the time Sumner ran in the PRELIMS??

Cade Flatt doesn’t need to waste his energy on SECs. He didn’t even cut his mileage for this meet. His focus is on Budapest as it should be. 1:50 now but he hasn’t even touched speed and was tempoing it at mile pace.

How does rooting for Sumner make someone a liberal? Do all conservatives uniformly hate him? Why?
