It will be intersting to see how UK Athletics and many others react to this.

Remember, in 2021 UK Athletics told all athletes to "cease all association" with Reider.

Even at the time, I thought the BBC's edict made no logical success pragmatically speaking. Wouldn't a smarter option have been to notify them, "Hey he's been accused of this. Be aware." But if you are worried about a potential heterosexual predator, what would someone like Adam Gemili have to be worried about?

Anyways, it also will be VERY interesting to see how the British track and field press covers this as well as World Athletics. At every world or big event, the British press guys were all into Reider, asking us for our personal opinion. The exposed him coaching in Eugene and got him thrown out.

Reider is certainly far from the first super successful man to sleep with somoene whom he shouldn't have. That being said, I've generally thought that sports governing bodies don't need to be the police- that's the police's job. But his case involved athletes he was coaching so I see why they fell like they should get involved.

If Reider was a high school coach sleeping with an athlete, he'd go to jail for having sex with a minor.

If he was a college coach sleeping with an athlete, he'd get fired (I assume) for breaking the college's rules.

But why is it anyone else's business what two consenting adults do with their romantic lives? What the hell is he on probation for? What/who's rule was broken? Why does SafeSport have any input on this? Are they going to go back and punish all the current pro coaches who are now married to their former athletes?

When the athlete is an adult, but still a teenager, and you are employed as a national coach and as such have significant sway over medal prospects (relay spots etc) it's not really comparable to a Paula/Gary or Jenny/Trevor situation.

The world is full of successful marriages built on top of relationships in which one party, usually the man, had some kind of power or control or influence over the other. Coach / athlete, boss / employee, TA or prof / student. Personally, I married my former boss. (He was my boss when the relationship started.) We've been together 19 years. This sort of thing has been frowned upon for decades but it happened anyway. Thank goodness people were a little less prudish when we met, or I would have my husband and my three kids.

I think he’s the most overrated coach in history. Every single athlete he’s coached has went downhill. If you can name anyone that’s improved under him let me know.

I have seen first hand how men use their position at work to pressure young women into having sex. The power imbalance is real. On the other hand, I have also seen instances where there was a power imbalance on paper, but in reality the employee was a very independent, strong willed person and the person in the management position was in no way using the position to force a relationship on the subordinate. They were just two people who worked together, hit it off and fell in love. The standard corporate HR response is to fire the manager and transfer the subordinate to another department/manager so coworkers won't complaint that any advancement was the result of the relationship. But in a world where people are increasingly atomized and have to move away from friends and family to find work, it is just a reality that the workplace is going to end up being their only social interaction and only chance to find a mate.

Right, this is every bit as disgusting and as concerning as Clinton-Lewinsky. Any father would have a real problem with their 18 year old "adult" daughter dating or hooking up with her 44 year old, married coach. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... at any rate, this clearly isn't a "relationship" that led to marriage. The people downplaying this probably can't see past their personal fantasies embodied in this story.
