Two Team Brawl Breaks Out At End Of Florida Regional

My guess is that this may have been instigated by “adults.” Parents so often mess stuff up for their kids when it comes to youth sports. So many over-involved and helicopter parents out there.

It also sucks for guys like this that had nothing to do with the ruckus but is DQ’d anyway.

“One athlete, Rockledge distance runner Devin Makousky, was a potential state qualifier in two races and was not involved or on the infield when the fighting occurred.”

I believe the fight started after one of the kids said, "What did you say about my mama?!"

Why would they suspend kids who were not involved? It wasn't a team activity. The photo looks like a bunch of people standing there videoing it.

First that DQ coach guy and now this. Florida! You’re better than this!

Bummer for the team members who weren't there but a brawl like that, dq the teams.

I was against that kid whose coach scratched him but I think this is fair.

Naw, this is Bush League for Florida. We got all-pro miscreants at all levels here.

Remember last year when the runner was attacked from behind during the race? WTF is up with HS track and field in the state of Florida?

It's a knee-jerk reaction by FHSAA. They had to do something big though considering the optics. They need to get the attention of every school to hopefully prevent this sort of thing from happening again. But it unfairly punishes good kids not involved. FHSAA left the door open for appeals and I think if kids can sell that they weren't even at the facility when this took place then they should be allowed to compete at states (assuming they qualified).

And how in the world did Rockledge High School get placed in a Regional in Miami? Rockledge is just east of Orlando; it is at least a three-hour drive.

Hey you want attention for Track and Field as a team sport? well yes, so off you go teams DQ for fighting...we civilized 'dilly dilly'.

That so many of you don't view track as a team sport says so much about the culture here.

The DQ was 100% justified.
