Lyles. That extra 50 changes the game. Omanyala is in great shape but I suspect it's not as fast as most people think. His 9.7s have been at altitude, and I believe both of them have had a good amount of wind.
There was a lot of hype about the Baily/MJ race. A lot of back and forth. Plus both were legit stars of track. With this race we have zero hype, no back and forth and only Lyles being a star. Lyles should win pulling away (and easing up).
Personally, I'd love to see Lyles race Asinga in the 150. There was some back and forth after that 100m a few weeks back and with something extra to prove, Lyles would want to bring his best. That would be a more interesting matchup IMO.
I think something like this could be good for the sport for the general non-fan. But, they HAVE to announce how much money is on the line. I think it's odd but that's what impresses people.
So many people are still shocked that there's prize money and appearance money and you can actually get paid and STILL be in the Olympics?!
I remember ABC often showing only the Dream Mile at the Bislett Games. The runners were much more well known than even the best are now.
I wouldn't be so quick to discredit Omanyala's recent form. Tebogo being over a tenth behind him adds some proper substance, IMO.
I'd still expect Lyles to peg him back in the final 50m as you say, but he's going to need to step up significantly on his form from a week or 2 back when a HSer absolutely blitzed him
I just got a glimpse of how young this board is. MJ pulled up injured, hardly raced that year, just managed to win the worlds and subsequently found his thigh had very little input. The notion that he faked an injury says more about this board than him. At least learn the history of your sport.

or how naïve you are. He absolutely faked his injury at the time because he was behind coming off the turn and he knew Bailey would pull away from there.
That was interesting to watch. I haven’t seen the race since I watched the original broadcast. My recollection was MJ pulled up WAY earlier in the race.
From re-watching it here, there’s no doubt at all in my mind the injury is legit. Given how much we’d expect MJ to close the gap over the final 30-40m, I think he was close enough to Bailey to make a race of it. I doubt he was actually expecting to be in front at this point in the race.
