I think both are premature. It was obviously too soon to write him off and it's too soon to say that he'll run low 1:45 or high 3:35. I think in general too many on LR are quick to "predict" outcomes off of scant data. That Sahlman needed time to adjust to altitude, different training and just adjusting to college life is nothing unusual. I would be concerned if he was running poorly for the entire outdoor season. But he had a few slow openers and too many said he was done. His main focus is to get out of regionals and hopefully make the NCAA 1500 final and then see what he can do.
all of the "sahlman needs to jump ship" posts a few months into his college running career made me laugh.
I'm guessing 1:45 low and 3:35 high for sahlman this year.
I can definitely imagine 3:35 high but 1:45 low seems like a stretch. This is a great result and more than anything I think it shows he’s ready to level up at 1500/mile, and hopefully it gives him a confidence boost. Would be great to see him in the NCAA 1500 final.
It is not a given for a major HS phenom to experience real progress in his first year out of high school. Good to see Sahlman now has PRed from 800-5,000.
