What a joke: Jamaican HS team run 7:49 at Penn, gets DQd as teams protest that they ran a guy who transferred into school

CIF rules impact athletes who don't race in California. Aaron Sahlman recently lost his high school eligibility because of CIF rules, despite the fact that he raced in Oregon.

Same thing for Jamaica.

It's not right but it's not a joke. There are transfer rules everywhere and they often seem silly. But you have to follow the rules.

Seriously? Questions about Jamaican HS'ers? And folks are outraged now? Questions and concerns for years on various things. And there ARE transfer rules everywhere. Even in NJ , when you transfer to a school..from another NJ HS, you had to sit..at least you had to. Now there is so much outright movement and kids going to schools 50=80 miles away, no one seems to care much anymore. Especially prevalent in Hoops and Football in NJ. Completely changed the HS Landscape over decades now.

The names of the runners listed are Davis, Frue, Price, and Bygrave.

This sounds like it would be against the rules in most states. Otherwise, they could just assemble super relay teams every single year.

This is why high school basketball is still better than AAU with their superteams, it is about fair competition more than creating superteams artificially.

Yeah, putting a runner on a school team that doesn't go to the school isn't a technical rules violation, it's straight up cheating. I don't know if anyone at Penn knows the inside scoop of Jamaican high school enrollment, it was probably other Jamaican schools that complained.

There weren't any other Jamaican teams in that heat though. There were some in other heats and I guess they could have protested so that they wouldn't have to face them in the finals?

Jamaican HSs often abuse their ability to have 19 year olds competing on relays in the 4x400m. There should be stricter age requirements (for all athletes) that you cannot be turning 20 in the year you are competing as a HSer. They had grown ass men on Calabar run 3:03 in 2018.

I wonder if any high schools in America ever have incredible cross country teams that include guys who choose to transfer schools and come from "areas much larger than the basic school district"?

Jamaican schools use to do this all the time; Penn manages to catch them from time to time. Some of the most outstanding performances by Jamaican high schools where practically all-star teams with transfers and 20yo athletes. One year Penn turned down the entries of so many athletes that the entire nation threatened to boycott the relays. Please note, most
Jamaican schools and athletes follow the rules. Btw, at Penn, all schools compete under NHSF rules.

Of course they do, but they follow the rules while they are doing it.

I didn't care about high school sports when I was in high school. Why the heck should I care now about the rules and another country's high school?
