Well that's unfortunate...but those are the rules as they stand and it's on her to abide by them. She took a risk and is paying the consequences.
I think the rule banning weed is silly for a lot of events in T&F, but not for the high jump. It's called the high jump. Obviously getting high is performance enhancing. It's like 50% of the event.
Marijuana suspensions are so lame. It is not a PED. That said, a rule is a rule.

It's not a PED then why do you think a majority of the world's top-paid professional athletes use it in competition?
Uh , what about Richardson being vilified for testing positive with a bunch of long threads and Tars gets squat?
Discussion?

Let it be a lesson to the world: reacting to life with a smile wards off bad vibes

Explaining a joke makes it no longer funny. Don’t be that guy.

I’d say that was more about the person behind the positive, rather than the positive itself. One is abrasive and off putting while the other seems like a genuinely good human being. That said, about 90% of the city of Austin would test positive for thc if you tested them all today.

Circumstances. Richardson did it after a sensational performance at trials and it cost her a shot at an Olympic medal. And, Richardson plays the villain. So, when villains do something negative they will be vilified.
Was this a random test? I thought it was only at in competition tests that it was banned.
Sha'Carri's problem was that she was at the Olympic Trials.
But, still, it's time to take that off the banned list. Unless every athlete gets a prescription to ease their anxiety.

Oh no, she is just as dumb for doing this. Timing was a little better. Ya gotta be better. Stay off the darn weed. You are either addicted or dumb. Both can be reversed.
That this is still on the books is the remnants of America's obsession with "Reefer Madness". The rest of the civilized world no longer cares, has moved beyond this, but America is still stuck in the 1950's. Oh wait, isn't "Make America Great Again" about going back to the '50's? Or at least to Ronald Reagan's war on drugs in the 1980's.

WADA maintains the banned list not America.
While I understand everyone's metabolism is different and could filter out the THC from the body at different rates, I wonder if anyone has figured out what the average time buffer period an athlete could have between their last high and before a competition (where you would most likely have to take a drug test)? WADA isn't going to drop marijuana from their drug lists anytime soon (there was no headway on it after Sha'Carri's test and subsequent ban, and she's a bigger name in the public than Tara) so athletes will either need to a) stop smoking or b) time their hits right to avoid a positive test.

In a society addled with various drugs, steroids, and "supplements," it's a slippery slope. Outcomes will soon be decided weeks after the event by increasingly litigated drug tests and codicils. The fatal error was creating a drug-testing bureaucracy. The law of bureaucracy is tumorous growth. Now under the proliferating transgender rules, drugs are becoming mandatory, except when they are prohibited.
It says the test was after the competition. (Actually it says she won shortly before the test was conducted.) What does 'shortly' mean in this case - minutes, or the next day? I could see toking up to celebrate the W and if that was the case, why the retroactive loss of the title?
