The man is only 23. If Kichoge broke the WR at 39, what are the top end possibilities for Kiptum? Is 1:57 or 1:58 too crazy? If he stays relatively healthy, I think 1:59 is a sure bet in the next 5 years at least.
I think its possible he is near his peak now, if you have read Noakes Lore of Running he makes a observation that many great marathoners ran their best ever thon in their first three marathons. Obviously Kipchoge is a huge outlier, and Supershoes probably help, but even guys like Kimetto came fast and dropped off. Hopefully he has the berlin/valenica pacers take him out at 1:00:30 or something and he can see what he can do in his next one cause it might not last. And I wonder with his youth and super shoes if he can run three quality marathons a year? Maybe set a world record attempt somewhere cool enough in July?

Not sure if Kipchoge is whatever age, but officially he broke the world record at age 37. It would be difficult to officially break the world record at age 39 if you have not attained that age yet.
I really want to believe Kiptum's performance was legitimate, but ... Consider, for example, the 2019 Reuters headline: "Kenyan Kiptum suspended, won't run in London Marathon." Yes, that article was about Abraham Kiptum and not Kelvin, but Abraham ran a 58:18 half compared to only 58:42 for Kelvin. If Abraham wasn't suspended, I think he could have run faster than Kelvin in London this year. Interestingly, Abraham was suspended for an athlete biological passport (abp) violation. Does anyone know whether any abp data/measurements have been posted for Kelvin Kiptum? Obviously, his data can't be normal, and perhaps he, like Oskar Svendsen has a VO2 max approaching 100 (97.5 for Oskar), but given the reasonable skepticism of these ridiculously fast times I really wish there was more transparency about athlete testing data and possible abnormalities. One of the things that continues to bother me about Paula Radcliffe is how she seemed to be quite reluctant to share any of her testing data, which if not for the fancy bear leak, for her, as well, as Mo Farah, would likely still not be known.

Kiptum’s 58:42 was almost 2.5 years ago and it’s likely he can now set a new HM WR.
Kelvin Kiptum is like an alien that just landed from another planet. No one even knew his name 5 months ago, now he is the CHOSEN ONE. Kipchoge who? It's just completely nuts and unsettling in a way I find hard to articulate.
He is either the most doped human on earth now, or a Usain Bolt once in a hundred years freak of nature that will send humanity to a new golden age. Nowhere in between.

Ehh, a 59:45 closing was impressive, but I wouldn't say it necassarily correlates with being capable of 57:31. Who knows what Kiplimo could do with marathon training right now?

Ehh, a 57:31 half was impressive, but I wouldn't say it necessarily correlates with being capable of 2:01:09. Who knows what Kiptum could do with half marathon training right now?

There’s no difference in training between the HM and marathon. The HM is not middle distance.
