There is no such thing as a true 800m to Marathon range. Range implies one can go back and forth. Once one becomes an elite Marathoner, there is no going back to 800m &/or 1500m. [This is why in years past I have pounded the table in disgust regarding high school kids racing October Marathons.] Is Sifan Hassan throwing in the towel, 1500m? If she races Marathon tomorrow, there is no going back. I realize it has been 3 1/2 years since S Hassan set her 1500m p.b. I would like to see her continue to try to medal, 1500m.
One cannot be considered greatest ever by medaling in 5000m &/or 10000m. Those events were added at 1912 Olympics for aged out or never were 1500m runners and almost Marathoners.

Why does it matter if she doesn’t go back to the 1500m/mile distance at this point. She still holds the mile world record and has medaled in the 1500 multiple times. What more could she really want out of that distance?

I feel the Same Way Ever SinceJacop Kiplimo ran 2 Half Marathons one in 58:49 and the other in 57:37 at age 18 or 19 I have really Worried That Jacob Kiplimo would never be good in shorter races he did run 7:26 for 3000, but Imagine how good he could have been if he had a Coach to tell him he was too young for the Half Marahon.
Also Haile Gebreselassie ran a Marathon at age 13 I always think about what might have been had he not run that Marathon, Sadly we will never know, That Marathon at age 13 Hurt Haile Gebrselassie running career so much, He must wonder what could have been.

For sure. I think if Haile had not run that marathon at age 13 that he could have possibly gone on to become one of the greatest runners who ever lived, but of course we will never know.
The greatest distance runner has to excel on roads and trails and all distances between 26.2 and 240 miles. No matter how good anyone is in the roads that is just one distance discipline and you have to go further and more technical to be the best

Obviously you don't read Matt London's posts carefully enough. He has been in recovery from distance running (400m), since 2015, and is just now progressing past 10m. He WILL make it back!
Hard to believe she's been competing internationally for 10 years now. I do expect her to win tomorrow. She is unbeatable when she puts her mind to it.

Snell ran a slow marathon once during his career. No other Lydiard coached runners ran marathons during their track career, as far as I know.
You have probably misunderstood Lydiard's term "marathon training. That was just another word for base training.

She would want to win 1500 gold in Paris. I don't think she'd be tinkering with the marathon if she believed she could defeat Kipyegon.
