Birnbaum looks to me physically from the 8:34 race to have the highest level pro talent in his class, though it is not close to fully developed, running in SD. Leo right now can still be beat in a sit and kick race, I think, but probably not in a time trial style race.
Leo Young is looking unbeatable right now until anyone comes close to his 1500 or mile marks this season. Lex is looking to be the slowest of these 4, doubtful that he'll break 4 but it'd be cool to see the Youngs do it before/after the Sahlmen. All depends on the weather though!

I'm not sure Lex is the slowest at the moment. His 13:44 5000m is worth a 4:01.xx mile and he's still working to get back to where he was. Regardless of who is the best in April, we should all be excited to see how this season eventually plays out. Like last year, this year has all the makings of some serious high standards.
I don't see Leo getting beaten here. He's run 3:40 and 3:39 this spring against pro and collegiate runners. He almost won the race on both occasions. He closes really fast.

What's wrong with running in SD?
Also, as has been said already, his coach runs the "Coaching Distance" twitter account and regularly posts insight into his training. The kids is a super talent, but let's not pretend like he's some midwest kid with no coach running 20mpw and taking winters off.
Is nike no longer enforcing their own rules or did they change it? For years NXR/NXN etc. said that the athlete had to be in good standing with their states association. Brody hasty was allowed to compete despite not being on his school's team because he did nothing that offended the Tennesse association rules. However, Youngs + Sahlman all have become ineligible by violating california's rules, they are therefore not eligible to run at this meet unless Nike changed their rules.

What a stupid rule if true. Many of the kids competing are graduated by that point, and thus moved on from hs.
Burns has no speed and cannot win a championship unless he can run away from everyone in the field. That won't be possible against the runners mentioned, and especially not in a mile. He will go home devastated.

Never mind 13:44, last year Lex was in 13:20 shape according to Brosnan, so he is easily the best and will win by a wide margin.

Prediction of places:
1. Leo
2. Birnbaum
3. Lex
4. Some other dude
5. Burns
Based on NXN last fall, he doesn’t always close really fast. Before this year, most posters believed Lex has the better top end speed.

Those are rules for being on a team at NXN. No issues for individuals in track. Also, NSAF runs the track meet.
