Having kids and getting married is not a guarantee you will spend the later years of your life with them around. In any couple, one of you dies first. There can be quite a big gap there. Your kids? Hopefully they stick around, maybe they'll move halfway across the world, maybe they'll grow to resent you and abandon you in old age. It happens more than people like to think. Maybe you'll have kids and one of them has downs, or is very autistic. Maybe you can barely afford a 3rd, your wife twists your arm to have another, and you end up with twins, and now you're house poor for 20 years. Kids are great if your kids are great, I guess.

True enough, but on the other hand, it may not always go so great being the kid.

I mean, I could see one of them writing a similar post about what could go wrong with the parent they got. And maybe I could see my kid writing it, for that matter. So there's that.

It's true Jamin. It really hits you when both your parents go, and you realize that you're too old to start a family now. Especially if you were with them when they died, and then you'll always be aware that there will be nobody with you to hold your hand or shed any tears when your time comes.

A lot of suppositions there. Two men with wives and kids saying men who purposefully chose freedom over being tied down want what they have. Rogan is clown.

For myself, I don't want kids and I do acknowledge the extreme difficulty in raising kids properly and also avoiding getting a woman pregnant as a mentally ill but high value man. The reason I do not want them is because 1)bringing an individual into the world without their consent and 2) i wouldn't want to project any mental illness onto them because if you look at kids--they are a product of their childhood environment and they generally inherit some of their parents traits which include the toxic ones and the good ones if the parents actually have any.

Now the thing is, I love kids and I get enough satisfaction by interacting with other peoples' kids and trying to make them enjoy their life and learn things to become a better individual and competent adult. As an adult, you can have a lot of influence on other peoples kids especially if they look up to you and you are successful--they want to be like you. There's also a plethora of single mothers out there who have kids that need other adults in their life as role models. So I love playing sports with kids, taking them to places they enjoy such as entertainment facilities, parks, sports games. A lot better than having them on an I-pad all day disrespecting their single mother who's authority they don't respect.

Now of course the overwhelming majority want their own biological kids and this could be construed as a selfish ordeal (although they'll try to construe it as the opposite) but I do think there needs to be a larger prevalence of adoption and I have the utmost respect for any indidual/s who adopt a child.

It's also obvious that powerful men secretly acknowledge that the world's population is on a curve towards becoming too large and threatening resources and the helath/sustainability of the planet earth so a push towards de-poulation is inevitable whether ones explicitly stated or secretly attained. In 1981 Jacques Attali wrote a book called Verbatim which was corroborated through world leaders/politicians to expose their secrets and future intentions. The book states that depopulation will be inevitable in the future by a virus--manipilated in a lab or haphazardly accumulated and the institutional powers will have derived a "cure" that kills many as the virus simultaneously kills the old and the weak who will succumb to it. Time to wake up on that subject. This is a real book that can be purchased or read.

With age comes hubris.

Its easy to default towards "what if" style regret as you get older. Youngsters today proclaiming to not want a family may find themselves someday questioning what they didn't do during their lifetime.

Whether it's having a partner, having a family, trying to start your own business, becoming a singer, trying to become a professional athlete or a rock star, there comes a time of reflection....The difference between those who did and those who didn't is that the ones who did at least experienced it. The ones who don't, never experienced it. They may (or may not) find themselves regretting what they never got to experience during their one and only time on this earth.

Live in the now and present. Who gives an eff.

My life without kids is very peaceful

That's me. I just turned 35, no friends, no partner and I don't even have a career right now. I have a masters in nuclear engineering. I don't live in the US, maybe job prospects are better there for someone with my education.

I used to have lots of friends. I thought I had a bright future. I don't know where to go or what to do anymore. Currently on mirtazipine. Can't run due to injury.

Steve, I read your posts, I think it's more like not that you don't want kids, but that you are scared to have kids... unsure what can happen. It's understandable. Not everyone is built for children which is why we have so many issues in society.

Why would they when they have real men locally with bravery and conviction? The man fighting for the survival of his nation is far more desired than one who spends his life complaining online, watching You Tube videos, and hobby jogging.
