and on his Instagram today that he thinks he’s going to run between 13:30-13:45 this evening at Bryan Clay. He said he’s ready to go after it and in the podcast mentioned a crazy workout that makes him think he’s in 13:30s shape.
other notes: Nico is in the same heat as Lex this evening. Leo is in the 1500m tomorrow.

It may be too soon for 13:30s but I like Lex's confidence. Leo didn't want to give a time, which makes sense because he doesn't know what the pace will be.
Strange that Nico isn’t in the first heat considering he has beaten most of the guys that are. Must not be in great shape which, if true, means we might get a race between Lex and Nico. Should be a good one.

Honestly rooting for him to take down the record but didn't they brag about how he was in 13:20 shape last fall? Conveniently now that he's actually racing on the track they move the goalpost to 13:30

IIRC, Sean Brosnan said it, not Leo or Lex. I just want to see Lex's fitness back to where it was last year (13:43) and then hopefully he'll stay healthy and run well in May and June.
He got smoked by Gorze and only ran 14 flat a month ago. 0 chance he breaks this record.
He’s a super-talented high school kid who ran 13:43 a year ago, so I don’t doubt he can drop significant time in a month of good training. Plus, his splits in that race were 2:51.9-2:49.0-2:50.7-2:52.0-2:38.9 - last K at 13:14.5 pace. He may have been capable of getting on a train going 13:45 pace even then.

Probably just going for a qualifier time and training through.

That's not exactly a giant move of the goalpost.
The marginal difference is last year he was peak fit and this year he's still getting there. I think even 13:40-45 is a good result for where he's at.
Rupp ran his 'record' in a postseason, overseas meet and had been consistently taking grey area supplements since high school. Salazar was a great coach, but he constantly pushed boundaries of what's legal.

Anyone think he is running this heat to help pull his brother to the record?
