Chills listening to Emma's confidence. She has never ran a bad marathon, she is always very consistent and conservative so I am excited to watch her go for it a bit more. I think after Sisson, Bates is the next most certain to make the Olympic team.
Odd interview with the man. Kinda understand why you’d press the questions since most folks wouldn’t ask them but he always doesn’t reveal as much as the average interviewee.
She was 7th at the Trials ahead of previous and current American record holder? And has since achieved 2nd in Chicago, 7th at Worlds, 8th at NYC. Progressively getting faster, and she clearly felt as if she was holding back after NYC. Doubt her if you must but I see no reason to.
2020 OT, also a non-paced race on a challenging course.

Right, and behind Steph Bruce at the OT. And of course she was "holding back" in Eugene, too. I'm not saying she's on a bad trend but I see holes in the supporting logic being used selectively. She more closely resembles Sara Hall than Deena Kastor to me. I could be wrong, hoping she has the day of her life on Monday.
If she were ready to run the AR then it's odd and unfortunate that she's running Boston rather than London or Rotterdam. Talk is cheap...
What is up with all of you? Did Emma Bates spurn your advances, steal your man or kick your dog?
As for why she’s not running London or Rotterdam, I’m sure she committed to Boston as her goal race months ago and is getting a nice appearance fee. It’s the most prestigious marathon in America. Even if she is in AR shape, times aren’t everything—she could still achieve something great at Boston.
I’m glad her training has gone so well and she’s super confident. Like another poster said, if she says she’s jumped to a new level I have no reason to doubt her. And as a fan I’d much rather see her answer rojo’s questions honestly, rather than give coy or noncommittal responses.

What should she say? Something cliche and boring? She feels good and has been training well. Nice to hear a confident American runner calling her shot.

It was an interesting interview in that it showed a glimpse of the sort of Zen mentality that surely helps make Kipchoge so successful. Refusing to actively consider his age and saying only the future will tell when it’s time to quit. Saying that he will “run [his] race” when questioned about strategy or how he thinks the race will unfold. Convincingly dismissing the question of whether he’s nervous about his first hilly marathon with “no” and a smile. Putting total faith in his preparation.
Or, it’s always conceivable it’s part of his public front. I’m probably wrong but he did seem just a little less confident and happy-go-lucky than usual to me. His answers to the questions about injuries, reiterating that “injuries are a part of the training” could hint that he’s had a few little problems.
No, just because I was defending a female athlete against what I consider unfair and inexplicable criticism doesn’t mean I “have a sub to her OnlyFans”. What a stupid thing to say.

On behalf of Ms. Bates, please accept my humble and sincere apologies for failing to be as fawning, vapid fan as you are. Please, no more tears, let's keep this fun.
It's great that her training is going well, but American Record form would require a quantum leap for her. Maybe she's there, and I'd love to see it, but it just seems like the way some athletes hype themselves up before big races...nothing wrong with that, but the likelihood that she's mixing it up with the leaders in the last part of the race, as she mentioned in the interview, is very low.
