10k- 29:44 which is 2:05:27 pace.
Halfway- 63:19
30k - 90:37 - 2:07:27 pace.
2:09:32 at finish.
He's 36 nowadays. I think he's firmly in the mix. Only a handful of Americans can run 2:09 and hardly any of them can do it while dying to that time.

Sometimes you have to try stuff. Leonard had a 2:7:56 PR from Amsterdam in 2019 and probably he thought he could be faster. But if the weather is not cooperating you just have to grind it out.

Funny thing is: he chokes, yet that still puts him on top of the US. That's how bad Americans are! This performance is blockbuster by US standards....embarassing by a more objective metric.

How is he down-talking Korir?? He says very few Americans could do what he just did.
I think Korir is very much in the mix, and if he’s in the same form at the trials is likely to finish somewhere between 2nd and 6th just depending on the day. Of course he was 4th in 2020.

His 2:07:56 was also a positive split (he went through the half in 1:03:02).
His close 4th at the Atlanta 2020 Trials was a big disappointment. Although postrace people focused in Jared Ward's bad day, I always though Rupp and Korir were the most talented people on the starting line. If Rupp and Korir line up healthy and in good shape in Orlando, it is very possible that two 37 year olds make the Team.
Even more impressive given that he had to spent most of the race hurdling piles of trash littering the streets.

Korir
Kibet
It didn't rain and there was no sign of trash on the course.

I believe you're missing Panning's 2:09:28 from Chicago who is likely the third person who would accept, so Korir probably just missed the team by a few seconds. Why was he trying to run 2:05 on a tough day? Too many good Americans try to run something crazy fast in the marathon and never reach their real potential. I'm not saying we'd have a bunch of 2:07 guys, but our list of 2:08 performances should be much higher. Korir was likely in PR shape to run mid 2:07 if he paced better. On another note, Hillary Bor has blown the doors off Korir twice in 15k/10 mile races this year. I wish he would run a marathon while he's running so well. But if he runs 8 flat in the steeple I guess that'll be worth it.

I didn't read it as a negative take. I think it was a compliment for Korir to say he ran 2:09 while bonking. That is a good thing. If Korir goes out a bit more under-control and with good weather and I think he is one of our top bets. Rojo seems to agree with that. That is not what throwing shade looks like.

Exactly.... KUDOS to Leonard Korir. Congratulations on having the guts to go out in sub 2:06 and hopefully next time you're able to hold it much better. Keep trying Leonard time waits for NO MAN.
