I thought it was common knowledge. Wasn't it falsifying documents relating to paying off Stormy Daniels not to say anything before the election? I think he may have used campaign money as well.

they are supposedly tieing the misdemeanor state violation to an alleged federal felony which the feds declined to prosecute. Unless there is more. Which is why Bragg should have said something.

It sounds like he is getting some BS charges that will be easily appealed. A political stunt, even Cuomo is on his side (LOL).

Too bad they're not prosecuting Trump for all the actually criminally illegal activity him and his family have done to increase personal wealth at expense of taxpayers. But if they go after him for that they'd have to hit Biden too.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think the process is unusual. It's just higher profile for obvious reasons.

The common understanding is that the charges will be related to "falsifying business records" in relation to paying off Stormy Daniels (and Karen McDougal?). I understand this sort of (tax violation) charge to be common in white collar crimes because there's a paperwork trail.

The question is whether Bragg and the grand jury believe it meets a threshold for being "done to cover up other crimes" which raises the charge to a felony. The "other crime" would be violating federal election law. Some experts think that case is weakened by the fact that Trump wasn't indicted for the alleged federal crime although Cohen was.

Charges are unsealed at arraignment, which is expected to be Tuesday.

Trump is charged for abuse of campaign finance money. There is nothing secret about it.

It is baffling to hear whining from MAAGA supporters that this is an attack on a leading candidate.

Have they forgotten the chants of LOCK HER UP, LOCK HER UP! And this was just weeks prior to the 2016 election? Did they forget the proclamation of former guy that when he became president he was going to have Hillary investigated and she would soon be in jail. Well Republicans in congress investigated and quietly closed the books on the email 'scandal' when they found nothing.
