After wins at the RAK Half (65:05) and NYC Half (67:21) this winter, OAC coach Dathan Ritzenhein hinted that Obiri might run a spring marathon. Now we've got confirmation that she's going to be in Boston. Marathon #1 didn't go great for Obiri (6th in NYC in 2:25:49 last year) and she'll get a chance for redemption on April 17.

I know Paula Radcliffe bobbed her head and was great at the marathon but does anyone watch Obiri's form and just wonder if she'll actually be great at the marathon?
I just emailed the woman in charge of "The Balanced Runner" on youtube to see if she'll analyze it for us. Is it just me or is just a lot of up and down to her form?
Obiri is my country_ woman. She's a great athlete but I really wonder some of the choices she's making as far as the 26.2miles distance is concerned.
She should borrow a leaf from the likes of kipchoge, Genzebe , Yehualaw and Almaz in their debuts and post debut marathon races.
She really made a blunder debuting on the New York course.
She's making another blunder running on Boston course in her earlier days of the 26.2miles.
Boston & New York are tough courses. As an amateur in marathon, you'd want to begin on softer courses like Valencia & Hamburg as you progress to tough ones!
Anyway maybe softer courses like Berlin will be more softer when she takes on them!
Obiri is a world XC champion, I think she can handle the Newton hills. Obviously NYC didn't go great for her, but she should be ready to run under 2:20 weather permitting if the long run with Klecker is any indication

I thought it was a bit curious too. NYC is one of the hardest courses to debut on and Boston isn't much easier. I thought she might want to go somewhere where she could run fast for marathon #2 -- maybe Hamburg.
But let's not forget that this woman won World XC on one of the hardest courses ever in Aarhus in 2019. I think she can handle hills and should be among the favorites in Boston.

I think it's good for her to gain the distance experience in the non-paced marathon. If it goes slow, then it's 30 or whatever K race vs going 2:15 pace from the gun without much experience.
If the weather is not too warm she is going to have fun. And with her speed, who knows how fast she can run after the hills to the finish!

Completely agree, mKenya. Such questionable judgement. I would've chosen the Dutch marathons, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, for her to help ease her into the big leagues and tough courses. This is what happens when you base yourself in the US, they'll only want you to run American races.

I'm pretty sure that these marathon races are not by her own volition. I'd echo what elkenanio has said up there..."What matters is that her sponsors would only want to see her race in the US"_ Period
It's so unfortunate. They're the ones who'll lead to her dismal performance over the 26.2 miles in the days to come then start coming up with all kinds of theories...🤔
