agreed I do not see the point in running any faster than 28 minutes, run hard but relaxed. It will be a glorified workout at the end of the day. However, if Bosley thinks he can run faster than 27:10 and get the world standard then it might be worth running for that but if that is the case then he should go pro already.

What would be the rush for him to go pro? He would not get a massive shoe deal at the moment, pretty much has the ideal training set up already (coach, Flagstaff, limited academic distractions, housing, travel budget to go to top meets).
After the regional qualifier 5k (13:37) he ran a few weeks ago he said on Strava "confident I can do this 2 times off zero seconds rest. Time to disappear and train". I think it's too early in the season for him to go for sub 27:10. He'll probably just use the race as a regional qualifier and treat it as a glorified workout. My prediction 28:00.

"Limited academic distractions " Lol you just had to squeeze that in there

But what other 10,000m race will he have the chance to run 27:10?
A) West Regional, doubtful.
B) NCAAs, doubtful.
C) USAs, doubtful.
D) Some other, doubtful.
Although I would normally agree that this should be a 28:xx qualifying race for him, he himself has hinted to running the world standard sometime in the future. The future might be now. Who else is on the starting list?

He can go for it whenever he wants. They can always set up a low key time trial type meet like Bowerman's done before and maybe pull in some alumni. Just get Nico to pace 7-8k then Luis and Drew duke it out for 27:10 the last 2-3k. They literally only need 2-4 guys. 1-2 guys to pace, Drew, and maybe an alumni to race Drew when the pacer drops.
I have no inside information, but perhaps some top collegiates will go for a fast time during the Mt. SAC/Brian Clay weekend (April 13-15) or at Payton Jordan the next weekend. I'm not sure which races are planning on having strong 10k fields, but those meets would give Drew and his peers in the NCAA 2-3 more weeks to train for a fast time without overlapping with conference meets.
Probably an attempt at a time qualifier for world's. I would predict 27:10s if the pacing were there from, say, a teammate. Nico paced a 27:40ish race last year or in 2021.

This seems to all be said so flippantly, like 27:10 is just a matter of pacing. Maybe I’m reading your post wrong? Two of our best just failed in a paced (albeit poorly) race in Southern California.

Ahhh...I was scrolling for a post like this, someone who actually has a clue. A lot of confidence out there for Drew B, did I miss something about how good he is? Just because he states he can run back to back 13:37's doesn't mean sh^t. I love how so many posts on this thread toss around 27:10 as though it's not a big deal. 28:00 minutes is not a walk in the park either, and don't forget that you only have a limited number of quality 10k's you can run in a season. If you're ready...LFG! and then worry about tapering and resting.
Golden Rule: NEVER assume you can drop a time whenever you want. If you're fit and ready to run fast, DO IT! Too many factors are at play that could ruin your "Big Race"! Weather, pacing, sickness, opportunities and don't forget injuries.
First, Klecker and Kincaid, for lack of top pacing, left a lot in the tank in that race. They could have both run 26:50s minimum, and Kincaid really could have been in the 26:40s. After all, both ran sub 12:55 indoors. Klecker was close to Fisher's indoor record, while Kincaid blew it out of the water, and we know Fisher went on to run 26:33 outdoors. Second, Bosley's a 13:13 guy and has run 7:36 since then, which suggests sub 27:20 ability. We've seen a lot of guys at that level run sub 27:20 in recent years such as about six or seven guys on BTC. However, I would guess that they wouldn't have the guys to make that kind of race and he'd do well to break 27:40. I'll guess 27:34.

I'm assuming as a runner you always want to get a PB sometime during the season whether he gets a world standard or not.

I saw that. It was the funniest attempt at answering a question ever. Interviewer was only joking too asking what question he should've asked but Drew Bosley looked more uncomfortable answering it than he does in the last 100 of a 10k. What on earth kind of journalism are they teaching at NAU?
