Hypothetical:
Let's assume Grant is still in Sub-26:40 10K fitness as of right now and trains for 7 months in preparation for the Valencia Half Marathon against Jacob Kiplimo right now.
What would the result be?

Seriously? Has Kiplimo amputated a foot, because that is the only way the answer to this isn't Kiplimo win.
+1
On another note: Watching Kiplimo run this latest HM win is a joy.
His running style is perfect: Almost no twisting in the upper body, feet and legs pointing directly forward, high knees and gravity and possibly one of the most relaxed runners on the circuit at the moment. Quite similar to Kipchoge.
In comparison Cheptegei seems to a have a more heavy running style.
I never implied Grant would win. I just meant how could the race fare?
Like if Kiplimo went out at Sub-58 pace, could Grant keep up?
If Kiplimo drops 2:40s in his final kilometers. Would Grant fathom?
Or would this need more Elite Runners like Kibiwott Kandie, Rhonex Kipruto, etc... For it to push Grant in the low 58s

He would be a good 1-2minutes back. It would be Fisher’s debut half marathon, so he might manage a mid 59 if he’s lucky.

If paced, a mid-59s would be quite disappointing. It’d be hard to find many recent sub-27 guys who ran a fast half and failed to break 59. Look at contemporaries in the 10 like Ebenyo, Kejelcha, Sawe et al
Bro what.
You really think a 26:33 10K guy is gonna struggle to go under Ryan Hall's Half Marathon record XD Look, I ain't saying Grant can beat Kiplimo but, don't relegate him to struggling against Hall. I don't think at any point in Ryan Hall's running career he was in Sub-27:20 10K. With or without supershoes. So Grant would DEFINITELY break 59:00. Breaking 58:00 is a whole other level of discussion that I have gone more in-depth on. But, I for sure believe fisher can go 58:40 on a fast course.

Maybe he should do it then.

For his debut half marathon yes. Give me a list of runners who have broken 59 minutes on their debut half marathon. The list is a short one.
This is hands down the dumbest question ever posted on letsrun. Kiplimo would assume grant is a volunteer. Probably wouldn’t even notice he was there once the “race” started
Bro, The ARM stay lookin' down on Grant. I'm being humble when I say Grant could go 58:40.
Mans pulled off 12:46 against Jacob Krop, who medaled at the Championships against Cheptegei/Jakob in the 5K.
3:34 1500, 7:28 3000, 12:46 5000 and 26:33 10,000 and for some reason, because of Letsrun's worship of Kiplimo. Grant couldn't Sub 58. His 26:33 is equal to 58:18 at VDOT and 58:01 on World Athletics Score.
Just cause his 26:33 was under aided conditions. Doesn't mean he couldn't deliver at a Fast course. Kiplimo's 57:37 in 2020 was on a new-made Valencia course which was demonically fast. None of those 4 Sub 58 guys has yet to come close to their PBs on that course only Kiplimo.
Jacob Kiplimo hasn’t lost a half marathon since he lost to Kibiwott Kandie in that Valencia race. He’s beaten studs along the way. Grant would probably finish like Cheptegei did in NYC
Dont care about some 2nd rate african doper and dont care about aside show of a race. Next
Also, why would Grant even consider doing that slow slog type of race? Should stick to the events he's a world beater in, 5-10000. That's where the money and fame are. 3000 is also good. He loves and is a god at 4 minute pace
Basically I look at Grant as a specimen. A phenomenal athlete who looks like a complete stud running. Unreal powerful strides and has the power and pure speed to match the legends, which Kiplomo is not. Kiplimo is like a weird 3rd world frail child next to Grant. Has no athletic prowess or anything i'd like to watch as a fan.
Kiplimo has "no real power" and yet he is faster by 2 seconds over 3k and has way better track results...

The real question is how would Woodie do? Sit on Jacob for 13 miles and blow a 25-second final 200 meters, crossing the line screaming "Gobble Gobble?"
Woody is sus.
He barely cracks 13 years ago and now all of a sudden was within 2 seconds of the Indoor World Record at 5K and the only 3 people faster than him are:
Kenenisa Bekele (12:49.60) Indoor
Haile Gebrselassie (12:50.38) Indoor
Daniel Komen (12:51.48) Indoor
Literally these are Sub-12:40 5K guys / Guys with Insane 3k pr's the slowest 3k among these 3 is Bekele (7:25.79). When the hell has Woody EVER displayed even Sub-7:30 3000 speed?

A few guys who never broke 59 for the half:
Kipchoge
Bekele
Farah
Notions of what "shape" people are in or how times at other distances convert are kind of meaningless. You've got to run the races. Who knows, maybe Fisher finds he doesn't have the engine for anything above the 10k. It's too hard to say until he runs one.

Oh, you are a real patriot!
I also value Grant and think that he is one of the foremost contenders for a medal in Budapest both in the 5000m and the 10000m. I have written on other threads that he possibly would have got the bronze in the Worlds 5000m final had he not had his rail accident. BUT............
You must be blind if you can´t see that Kiplimo is one of the greatest young runners of this era. He has been dominant in X country and on the road from a young age. And as pointed out by another poster he has won international medals on the track which Grant hasn´t yet. Kiplimos medals:
2 bronze in the 10000m: in Tokyo and in Eugene; and 2 golds in the Common Wealth last year.
I think Kiplimo has as good a chance as Grant to win a medal in Budapest and perhaps even a gold (most likely in the 10000m).
And Kiplimo has a perfect running style as pointed out in my above post.

Finally: I don´t think you can call Grant a world beater before he has won an important international race.
