It is a bit curious that a brand as big as Adidas and on that has as much money as they have doesn't put forth a bit more effort in putting on a good meet.

Not saying it isn't well run, it may be super efficient, but why are there very many kids there? Why doesn't Adidas partner with some event promoters or something? Their outdoor meet last year was horrible from what I recall as well.

You would think they were like the Reebok of the sport as pathetic as their big meets are.

Adidas put on a GREAT outdoor meet from around 2000-2004. At the time there was only Footlocker in the fall, Nike Indoors in March, and then Adidas Outdoors in June. Best track meet by far since it was summer and athletes could travel without school obligations. It used to be held at NC State, then Nike took over outdoor nationals and moved it to NC A&T.

Like the OP said, there are more meets than ever. Two "national championships" in XC, three for indoor, and I don't know how many outdoor.

Quality over quantity? Rodriguez 16:39 is faster than everyone at Nike and New Balance minus Shea's incredible 15:46. So I would not say it's a failure in that regard (performance).

i kind of feel like 2 is fine. 3 is definitely too many. anybody going to the adidas was only going because of the proximity and easier standards. possibly some race obsessed kids going there after already attending nike or NB.

There’s basically just two each season. Nike and footlocker for cross (Nike the higher quality one and runninglane now an also ran). NB and Nike for indoor (NB the higher quality one and adidas the also ran). Brooks and Nike for outdoor (Brooks the higher quality one and NB and adidas the also ran). I’d love for there to be only one each season, but a primary plus a good alternate each season is the way it has sorted out and it seems to work ok.

I would be fine with 4. But you have to realize that they are more regional meets than national championships.

And sure it would be nice to have one Uber elite meet. Imagine what last year would have been like with a field of sub 4 milers, flatt versus Sumner, and so on. But that doesn't seem likely.

Rodriguez ran the 2 mile at Nike and placed 2nd with 10:20. 16:39 is nowhere near as good as her 10:20

and what about on the men's side? no quality or quantity.

Probably in the 4 months before racing season....

is there a race video? what could the announcer even say during the race? how does he explain why there is only one entry?

The competition is weak. Look at the outdoor meet last year and it had kids avoiding the big outdoor nationals. Also the USATF indoor youth nationals has very few full fields, especially in field events at the high school level. They need to move it to earlier because most states have started outdoor at this point.
