There hasn't been a finisher since 2017 - saw Karel Sabbe & Jasmin Paris are in with a chance to finish. Not sure who else is in, guess we'll find out when the conch sounds. Love this race, hope we get a finisher or two this year!

Looking forward to it, nothing like a great BM!

whooooops, you are correct! can't edit title it doesn't appear
There might be a chance for a finisher, as the weather looks like it will cooperate. The conch needs to be blown early, early morning (like just after midnight) for the best chance to avoid rain before the 60 hours are up.

ty for this - hope the conch sounds soon then :)
Checking the weather for the race site again, and they are in the clear. No adverse weather. Hopefully participants get a good night's sleep, and start without any sleep deprivation. A little cold the first night, but if that is managed, it will be clear sailing (as clear as it can be at Barkley, anyway). Fantastic weather after that. May finally see another finisher(s).
Anyone gonna finish the race this year?
i enjoy following this event simply for the pain it inflicts on its participants.
The whole "no coverage allowed" rule is really f****g stupid.

Wait wut, how do I get updates if I'm not on Twitter?
Preview video highlighting a few of the contenders.
Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Listen for the rusty kazoo sound, find the phone book, squint at page 373 upside down and hum the 27th line, tattoo it on your left arch with green ink.

The reason for this rule is so the park doesn't get overrun by visitors. This race takes place off of the public trails, so they need a special permit. It's why only 40 ppl can participate each year. Park management almost shut it down for good so they're extra cautious. And sure, maybe some of the secrecy/tradition stuff isn't for you but they even did a documentary on this race it's not like there's no coverage at all.
It's also not *no* coverage as there are plenty of cameras at the start and at the top of that big hill (rat jaw?).

u don't have to follow it if you think its so stupid! I think it's a pretty fascinating race and it's obviously quite challenging as tons of elite ultra runners have attempted & failed.
Interesting to see Joe "String Bean" McConaughy in there. Actually think he's better suited for this event than a traditional ultra runner.

agree w you here. believe orienteering is the biggest challenge, plus the vert/distance/conditions. Being fast on Western States or w/e doesn't necessarily translate here
