She lost the DMR comeback by the margin she wasted randomnly elbowing the girl she passed on straightaway to get to Whittaker. Second week in a row. Today and SEC race. Just nonsense. I’ve seen her do it in SEC for years. Must be a lance thing. Elbow people who are alone when passing.

Did not happen. She never made contact with any runner she passed. Watch the race before you make false assumptions. Sounds like someone is a little jealous that another female distance runner is getting attention for her performance at NCAAs. She takes the baton at 6:30
Arkansas' Lauren Gregory's massive anchor leg wasn't enough to pull ahead of Stanford as the Cardinal win the Distance Medley Relay at the 2023 NCAA indoor t...
Just watched the Women's DMR. Surprised to not see any threads on this??
Lauren Gregory runs 4:31.36 at altitude to bring Arkansas from 6th to 2nd and push Stanford to the line. Amazing last 3 laps.
There was A LOT of love for Lauren Gregory over the weekend. You’ll have to read through the other threads to see it all (that, and the article that LetsRun put out that clearly talked about her).
I like Gregory but I was rooting for Howell in the closing meters of the mile, simply due to the severe SEC bias of the announcing team. They wouldn't have shut up about her for the remainder of the telecast.
Besides, Howell had stayed closer to the pace throughout. I appreciate when runners are rewarded for that. I was rooting for Maatoug initially but I've never seen her go to the front like that in any of her Netherlands races so I doubted she could hold on, especially given a complete lack of any altitude racing or training.
Maatoug did all the work and then faded to 7th, it's unfortunate; she set-up Howell (and others) for the perfect race since she kept the pace going, no one got bunched-up, tripped, etc., they were single file for most of the race.
It looks like Maatoug was affected by the altitude, that's my guess.

I second this, lots of posts about Gregory and a great write up. Her effort on the dmr was truly fantastic and I was rooting for her in the final. It's a bummer about her foot. Hope it heals quickly.

Maatoug will be back and ready to roll at sea level. Duke will be at Raleigh Relays with Ncst and Vtech.
I do wonder how many runners left these championships thinking about buying an altitude tent.

haha, yeah. Just my opinion, but I think- in the long run - runners are rewarded for running gutsy races, i.e., what Maatoug did in the women's mile, she put it out there. sure, yesterday Maatoug couldn't hold the lead for the entire race - maybe next time (at sea level) she will though.

Lauren did hit a runner rather hard while passing on the second to last or last lap on the backstretch. I do not think it change any results, so in my book no harm. I hope it was not intentional. I assume it was not, just poor judgment on spacing.
