going a little further with this, Tuohy running 1600 puts Bush on the 1200 leg over shaw. Good chance this is enough to put them over the top. Not sure if shaw would then move from 1200 to 800, or maybe hartmann is better at that distance anyway.
I was surprised to see Hartman on that leg. She's better at 1600/mile and greater. NC State should be pleased with her come cross season.
One other thing I thought I saw Whitaker go thru 800 at about 2:14 which for her at altitude was way too fast and she paid for it but held on....barely.
Valmon's 51.9/400 leg broke the race open . . . in very few DMR races can you say the 400 leg played a significant role for the winning team . . . just controlled solo runs by W&W after that with some excitement coming up from the back at the end.
Concern about the 800 heats being so close to the DMR didn't seem to affect Willis at all while Whitaker slowing at the end to make it close probably had more to do with her too-fast 800 opener . . .
Juliette looks like a sprinter with that compact, muscular build . . . how she manages to run a mile so well is astonishing . . .
Dunno what's going on with her but something's not right. The Cook we saw tonight has nothing to do with the athlete who finished top 10 at XC Nats four months ago.
Why? NC State is nowhere near the team title, even with 10 points from the DMR.
I am not advocating it but maybe Tuohy could have run 4:30 and Bush could have run 2:05 on 800 so drop 9 seconds and maybe they are 3rd with Tuohy pretty gassed tonight.
I think they made the right decision not to run Tuohy in the DMR. Might have put her performance in the 3k at risk tomorrow.

They have a girl coming in next season who was a 2:06 in the 800, as a junior. maybe some much needed depth for their middle distance.
It was too close in time to the 5000m for Tuohy to run the DMR. And really it worked out very well for NCSt. They came in top 8, which gets first team AA status if I remember correctly.
You're right, it was at the Armory. She ran the 3000 at Millrose though. Either way, she was fresh and racing the pros like Monson and could only manage a 4:24. Bush fresh tonight would have run faster than Tuohy after the 5000. Good decision to not run her; all it would have done was hurt her chances in the 3000.

Yes and all three runners in the 5k were top 8. Everyone that ran for NC State tonight made 1st team AA. A great night! Sadly not a good night for my other fav team Texas A&M. They were contending for team titles 2 years ago - how far they have fallen.
