« I was mad after the race not because Woody wouldn’t take the lead, but that I was clipped from behind with 900 meters to go. My calf seized up and I was unsure if I’d be able to finish. Such is racing. Thanks to @sound_running for a great event. »

klecker on Twitter
Yeah yeah yeah. He ran a 56 last lap and lost by <1 second, it didn't seem to hinder him that much. As runners, I think we've all been guilty of making excuses when races don't go our way, and we believe our own BS even when objectively they're a bit silly.
Rupp didn't like it when Solinsky sat on him until the last 800m in the 26:59 when he ran 1:56 as fresh as a daisy. McColgan sat on Monson until the last lap. Woody sat on Klecker at 5000m and 10000m. It's typical racing but hurt both because the standard for next year was more important to get. There are very few circuit 10000s now, especially at convenient times for Americans, who are not wanting to run one in Europe too close to the trials.
LOL he really was in 2016, as far as Meb was concerned!
Stop perpetuating this lie. Meb kincaided Rupp as long as he could until Galen dropped him. Seriously, go watch the race.
I watched the race and the incident multiple times. Meb was being clipped by Galen repeatedly and there was no crowd and no reason for it. He was right to be irritated, and then Rupp did it again with Kipchoge who did not play that and dusted everyone in response.
Let's face it, OAC came in like the wins were guaranteed. NOT. Klecker and Monsoon LOST. Ritz did not expect that and neither did the team that think they are so invincible. Love watching others step up to the plate - and win. Now we shall cover it up by focusing on the AR and not even mention McColgan's win. LOL
I am astonished at how many people are taking Klecker’s whiny side on this thread. It’s a damn race, not two buddies holding hands to a time. You can’t expect some guy in a different training group to take the lead and help you. Why would you help your competitor?

Let's cut to brass tacks. When that gun fires, no one owes you a goddamned thing! Also, sh*t happens like clipping, shoving, falls, etc. It's racing. It is also why we get our butts handed to us in championship competition. Our boys, with a few exceptions, lack the cojones to mix it up. Nope, we just want our perfectly paced time trials with someone getting paid to do the heavy lifting and everything has to be just perfect.
Joe - you are a compensated professional athlete and this ain't your first rodeo. If you are in sub-27 shape, then freaking run a sub-27! Don't blame it on Woody for not helping. He is under no obligation to be your Cal Naughton, Jr. and set up "Shake and Bake" for you.
American male elites - if you have the chops to go sub-3:30 / sub-13:00 / sub-27:00, then run that pace and take the chance that you will get used and outkicked. There wasn't huge money or a team berth on the line so why employ this cagey gamesmanship bullsh*t and then complain that sh*t didn't go your way and you missed your goal? In some ways, I feel like I am watching a regression back to the 1990s.
Lame of Klecker to have a fit but this wasn’t a real race with stakes, they should all be on the same team of trying to run a fast time and it’s lame of woody to just take advantage and not contribute to the effort
Nice sit and kick to win the most meaningless title, Woody

If they need someone holding their hand to a standard, why are they even going to the world championships? If you need that much help to get that standard, you stand no chance in the world championship final. What do you mean this wasn’t a real race?
Exactly. Woody is just one of the racers. He's not there to help anyone. Can't stand attitudes like Klecker's. He could have run faster if he wanted to.
This was explicitly a time trial to get a standard. Woody was a mooch who was clipping from behind he was mooching so hard. If woody pulls his weight and takes some laps in there they had a chance to hit the 2024 standard. But nope. Woody doing woody things. I didn’t mind the sit and kick at BU. But tonight was too much.
Hahahaha....an American record where he gets dropped and comes back in the last lap or so to win is a sit and kick race? hahah what in the world?

Pre is spinning in his grave right now.
"Wins are nice but, I am just thankful to help Lasse and Frank get their respective national records. Sure I'm disappointed, but we are all on the same team trying to beat the clock. What's important is that the fans were treated to a good show this evening and everyone is a winner in my book!". - A quote Pre never would have uttered.
Hoare led the first 15 Klecker the next 8 Woody the last 2
Unless there was an agreement before the race to share pacing duties after Hoare stepped off, Klecker has nobody to be upset with but himself. It's not like Woody kicked by him with 100 meters to go.
Klecker had the perfect lead-out the last two laps, but Woody just ran away from him.
This. Klecker’s mad that he’s not that good. BTC and former BTC athletes own him. Nuguse has supplanted him as the alpha of OAC. He’s the second best runner in his marriage. Joe is frustrated with being constantly overshadowed.

Umm, I don't think anyone including OAC thought Klecker was guaranteed a win.
