Super responder to the Vaporfly but not the superspikes?

Having nothing in your legs is more likely due to the training and not the spikes.

Your theory is a little out there but it's probably not unheard of. Seems like the only way to find out would be to do a time trial in the other shoes

What would spikes have to do with 67 second laps? Be honest with yourself.

Ya that’s a pretty rough 3200 off of that 6x800 workout. May have just been a bad day, may have been the indoor track, May have been the spikes. Either way sounds like you are capable of a better time than that right now. I honestly would have expected 10:04 to be about 5k pace.

Difference in responses to different shoes

I think the two 'sharpening' sessions were likely too tough.

A total of 20x400m even broken up, is 2.5 x race distance, so not really sharpening.

The 6x800m session was probably a little tough for where you are at too - certainly too tough for a race sharpening.

I've not done anything exactly like your 400s, but I have done the 6x800m session and did them in 2:20-2:21, but I was at 1:57/4:20/9:20 shape, and it wasn't a pre-race sharpener.

I've had a little experience with this. My hypothesis is that running in spikes requires different and perhaps more leg strength. So you need to train in spikes to be able to race in them.

Little update in case anyone cares. I ran a 1:12 half marathon a couple weeks ago, which confirmed to me that the issue definitely wasn't my fitness. Did a solo 2 mile time trial in Vaporflys on the track this morning, and ran 9:51. Not only was the time much faster, but my legs feel great right now, whereas I was utterly trashed after the last race, and I feel confident that I'll be fully recovered for Boston.

Who knows if I'm actually a super-responder (whatever that means), or more likely that my calves just weren't prepared to run in spikes, given that I do pretty much all of my running in highly cushioned shoes. Still, I wonder how many other people could benefit from racing in road supershoes on the track.

I haven't done much racing (yet) in superspikes and supershoes, but I'm in the same boat. Superspikes (dragonflys) feel good, not crazy fast. Not sure if they're really much of a game changer for me. Supershoes, namely the Endorphin Pro, definitely boosted my times on tempos and longer reps and feel absolutely wild.
