McGorty I’m not seeing either…I must’ve missed it. Neither could get in on World Ranking right? McGorty is ranked 20th but I recall Kandie not getting in and he was ranked higher last year.

Cranny, Infeld, Dibaba not mentioned. Would be weird to miss out a world champ, World medalist, and #2 US all time from your race promo that is saying how deep the field is. Just a weird series of errors?

I would expect the IG to be more up to date than the website. If Cranny and McGorty are both gone then it could be down to a shared illness, or Jerry re-adjusting when he wants his athletes to race: seeing as Grant, Evan, Ratcliffe & Cooper all had good but not great performances recently - might be an indicator of where the group is at in training

I'm also really interested to see where McColgan is at. She's training for the London Marathon but she was extremely confident of running sub-30 last year, and may have got it if that race in Hengelo didn't revert to a tactical affair. 30:19 solo from the front suggests she had at least a little more in the tank, but I'm not sure how much. I don't think she'll have that kind of effort in her on marathon training but she'll be after the World standard at a minimum

Why down vote that? It would make sense. Cranny has had trouble with the training doldrums before, and that's something that can sneak back up on an athlete. If that is in fact the case, she's realized it early; and can recover/prepare appropriately for Budapest and Paris. I hope that Jerry eventually realizes that his style of training is self limiting and non sustainable. Meaning, the load eventually catches up with everyone- injuries, burnout, etc. The BTC is only a shade of what it once was, just 1 year ago. The women's team is in shambles with ZERO (?) healthy athletes, while the men's team has only 3-4 guys racing this last indoor season. The mass exodus should have been a clue to the training staff, and the thriving of former BTC athletes this last season only reinforcing the cracks in the philosophy.

Cranny did not look good at Millrose. The counterargument will be "oh, she was training through with an eye on the 10k" but that's kind of junk. A hard race is a great training stimulus and to benefit maximally from it you need to be at least somewhat rested going in. Pretty much every other coach has figured this out.

Drew Hunter was in the 1500 and he’s out now. they added mccolgan into the 10k. Filled out the high school fields.

The obviously went on to the website and edited it. Why only do half the work?

Meet director Jesse Williams confirmed to me that both Cranny and McGorty are out. He said that Cranny wasn't 100% ready and it sounds like they're being cautious with McGorty as well as he may have had a hiccup recently.

Cranny has the standard already for the 2023 Worlds so she doesn't have to worry about the 10k until USAs. McGorty's spot is less secure because he doesn't have the standard, but he is 24th in the ranking list right now, so he would get into Worlds off his World Ranking if they selected the field today.

Thanks for the clarification Jon. Tough winter for Bowerman to some degree. Ironically, the men's 1500 guys (Thompson/Teare) are more the bright spots than the women's ST-10K group, which is typically the standout group.

Question, does Grant Fisher's 10K time from last year count towards WC this year and the Olympics next year?

No, but he is high on World Ranking and if he finishes high up in the 10K at Worlds and USAs isn’t run in over 28 mins, he’d be pretty secure that way I’d think.

or McGorty is in a good spot to qualify for the 10,000 in terms of rankings as are Cranny and Schweizer with their time qualifiers. Neither Cranny or Schwiezer have times or rankings in the 5000m yet. If they aren't in a position to chase a record and don't have to run a 10k to qualify this year why not wait and focus on races that will advance there seasons and careers. A mediocre 10000 does nothing for them.

the 10000 qualifying period started at the beginning of 2022 so Fisher, like Cranny, is fine for the 10000 standard.

He is ranked 3rd in the world at both 5,000 and 10,000 so he will get in on rankings comfortably.
