This is a thread was about whether you think Russia should be banned from the Olympics since they are trying to take over another country via war. It was not a thread about what Germany or Japan did in WW2 or what they US has done in the past. But it turned into a thread about Russia vs Ukraine and we already have a thread on that so I've closed the thread to new posts. Everyone's views on that are largely set and don't need to be discussed here.

I heard on BBC World last night that 230 Ukrainian sportspersons have been killed by the Russians.
Yep, ban the Russians. The idea that sports and politics can be separated to me is a nonsense.
The Olympics will be defunct soon anyway.
Between no one wanting to host them and Bob Costas being the biggest liberal simp commentator. Basically unwatchable.

would not bother me. Break the sports up and have many cities host world championships for each sport. Share the joy of sport around the world and get rid of the IOC club.
It's a difficult situation.
They want to be apolitical in the Oympics, so almost everyone can come together.
But when one country is busy raping and murdering and torturing, pretending that doesn't matter is becoming amoral.
It verges on appeasement, which is a subject being widely broached for how to deal with the totalitarian invasion and war crimes machine attaching Ukraine.
So it's tricky.

Yep, the past is horrific, but it is 2023 and Russia (and China) pose a threat to many of our allies. Fact.

I really never gave Russia much thought until this war. What is really wrong with that army do they suck or what? Then we have Putin, what a loser this guy is. All he is doing now is trying to stay in office once he loses in Ukraine it's over for him and he knows it.

There is probably not a country on earth that hasn't committed atrocities at some point in their history. But Russia is committing war crimes right now, as we are posting. They should not be in the Olympics if their invasion of Ukraine is ongoing.
