The 1500m Should Be Abolished

The mile has no history. No one has ever won an Olympic Gold medal in the mile.

Yeah but like I said that 9m isn't enough to throw off any spectators/racers. If you're trying to run sub-4 isn't it pretty ideal to go through 409 in 60.x anyway?

And people have been racing the mile for longer than they've been racing the 1500. Roger Bannister wasn't famous because he ran a 1500 WR.

There is no point keeping that 9m which means 1 or 2 seconds. The mile was already history and came back when 4 was broken but now it doesn't matter cause you're comparing 3:45 to 3:47.

The 1500 was invented for 500 meter tracks, which are long obsolete, so yes get rid of it but go with the sensible 4 laps, 1600 meters. 1 lap, 2 laps, 4 laps, 8 laps, that's how it should be.

And no 200m, that's redundant, almost the same exact people as the 100m.

Also get rid of all hurdle events, they are ridiculous.

100, 400, 800, 1600, 3200 one each for men and women. 10 events, that's your track meet. 1 to 2 hours. Save the sport!

Since all tracks are now 400 meters and not 440 yards, the 1600 makes more sense than the mile.

Races are for racing. Your main argument is that you don't know what their finish time will be? Get rid of sprints then because I have no idea if what the 100M runners are doing until I see the clock. Actually, I watch the races. Sounds like you are a JV type who worries about time.

4 minutes is a pretty random amount of time, we should change the amount of time that is 4 minutes currently to 5 minutes and a mile should just become 1600m in length everywhere, not just on the track.

Nah I love races I was ballin out when I was watching NCAA XC that's why I want to switch to no 1500s. In a mile at every lap it's super easy to tell what pace they're on so I can be like "Oh ok they're on 3:56 pace" and get back to focusing on the race but in a 1500 they hit 700 and I say "Oh ok they're on uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh like 3:37 pace" and at that point they're halfway through the next lap. Tbh at this point it's faster for me to wait for them to hit 800, figure out what mile pace they're on, then convert the mile to a 1500.

Ngl if we changed the mile to be 1600m I'd be chill w it but if we made 4 minutes 5 minutes then 1 lap wouldn't be 1 minute for a mile anymore.

It would actually make more sense to have 500 meter tracks since most of the world is metric. Races should be 100 m, 200 or 250 m, 500 m, and 1,000 m instead of 100, 200, 400, and 800. We live in this weird spot where you use metric distances that are somewhat anchored to imperial distances. For example, there’s no reason to run an 800 m race except that we built 400 m tracks to be close to 440 yd tracks. Obviously this won’t happen, but it would make sense if you were building from scratch.
