Interesting that 3 of the most prominent US based running groups (OAC, NAZ Elite, Team Boss) are all let by former Wetmore pupils. I’d be curious if any utilize any of the same system they learned at CU under Wetmore, granted the system could’ve looked slightly different for each as each ran in different decades at CU. Culpepper 90’s, Ritz 2000s, Bosshard 2010s. Wonder if any communicate with Wetmore now as they have became coaches themselves.

Also interesting that Ritz was coached by both Wetmore and Hudson, who himself was coached by Wetmore. That’s like some kind of forked tree limb that comes back and rejoins itself.

I think it is more a testament to how small the elite/pro circle is in this sport than anything about Wetmore.

Say what you will about Alberto personally (or suspect what you will about pharmacological assistance) Alberto’s athletes generally performed very well, and I would consider him to be a very good coach. Ritz undoubtably ran his best under Salazar

I was wondering the other day what American distance coach has the best lineage of coaching and realized the answer isn't from a coaching tree. When Mike Smith took on Galen, he probably poured over the logs and learned Salazar's approach. If Woody does change coaches to Mike Smith, he'd get visibility to Jerry's inner workings. Quite the trove of training information.

From my understanding of Ritz’s training, which comes from Strava and the coffee club pod, it is heavily influenced by Salazar and Wetmore. There’s certain workouts that are pretty obviously taken from Salazar and then they guys on the coffee club pod mention frequently doing CU style long runs where you are essentially hammering from mile 1

At Indianna this past year they had the coaching tree invite which was all team that under the coaching tree of Ron Helmer, NAU was one of the teams there along with some other solid teams.
100 mile weeks, 10 mile tempos, the occasional killer workout, a ton of talent, a bunch of grey area “supplements”, and a thyroid med prescription. It’s not a complex formula.
