Really looking forward to this race. Many great internationals and looks like the majority of top Japanese marathon athletes too. Really intrigued by the Osako | Suzuki head-to-head

The full field as shown by Japan's Brett Larner appears at the bottom of this post. A few thoughts.
1) Tokyo is projected to have 9 sub-2:05 men in it's men's field this year . No marathon in history has ever had more than 9 sub-2:05 men in history. There also were 9 sub-2:05 guys in 2021 at the Olympics and Valencia. Of course, all of the sub-9 guys in Tokyo this year have run 2:04. No one in the field has run 203, 202 or 201.
There will be 11 sub-2:06 guys and 19 sub 2:07s. The 19 sub 2:07 guys is 3rd most of any marathon in history - only surpassed by 2020 Olhmpics (24) and 2020 Valencia (23)
2) The women's field will have 6 sub-2:19 women., a feat only surpassed twice (2023 Boston and 2022 London) and equalled at the 2021 Olympics

On the negative front, I just looked it up and 2023 Tokyo will have 0 of our top 10 women's marathoners from 2022 in its field. For the men, 1 of our top 10 from 2022 is in the field - #10 Tsegay Getachew of Ethiopia who was 1st in Riyadh (2:06:27) and Amsterdam (2:04:49) last year.
Takeaway London is going to be absolutely loaded on the Women’s side - that is even if Nagoya grabs an athlete or two. Men should be decent but not great barring some high profile debuts.

Agreed, six or seven women with very fast times from 2022. Some of them debutants.

Any idea when London will announce their field? Thanks

Hellen Obiri could be fun if she is in it: huge reduction to a PB coming

Women’s field was fantastic last year, but up another notch here, I imagine

Last year had a slew of withdrawals. Hopefully who is named will run
