This isn't "brain damage" or "evil." It is a person who believes we need to make more serious policy reforms to avert dramatic climate change for the next generation (by starting now, not in the future). She has a platform and wisely used it. She would have been a non-factor in that race and knew it. She can find plenty of good comp in the UK.
I respect her for that. And everyone, Liberals and Conservatives, do this if they really care about their principles.
p.s. I know several real Conservatives in my community who paid more for their gym membership than they would have in local property taxes to build a community fitness center and pool. I asked them why they would be willing to pay more for the same service and they said they "didn't want to support another government program." I pointed out that they were hurting their bottom line and they said it was worth it to make a point. They also pay more by not shopping at certain "Liberal stores" that require masks. But for them it is worth it to make a point about those stores' woke policies and pro-gay stances. They pay out of pocket to send their kids to parochial schools despite very good public schools in the area because their beliefs are more important than what is "logical" to the rest of us.

Look at the bright side, in 25 years airplanes will be empty and air travel will be a fraction what it is now because half the customers will refuse to fly due to climate change. Instead they'll drive their EVs that use fossil fuels to make the electricity and the process of making rubber is horrendous for the environment.
