Sod those snoots who want to pooh-pooh the efforts of a SIXTEEN year old girl who happens to be the daughter of talented parents, especially her mom. So the daughter didn't have it and only ran 5:20! I sure as hell was interested. Who wouldn't root for a young girl like Kiki? Is it her fault that she has good genes? Hell NO! Her future is brighter than 99.9% of the high school girls against whom she competes, and each race is valuable experience and "money in the bank", even the less successful efforts.
Sure, putting Kiki in the spotlight creates pressure, and that can be said for any story about any runner, but that spotlight can sometimes be very positive motivation, even for a sixteen year old. It didn't work out this time, but next time Kiki might shine. Or the time after that. Go, Kiki, go! I'm happy to celebrate your talent.
It's a unique situation, where Kiki is a talented runner, and her mom is still running professionally and can help out. Let's not turn every story of talented children of pro athletes into a privileged nepo-baby tale. If we go after her, then we'd also have to go after every kid who's parents are the coach of the team they are on.
Privilege is not always a bad thing. It's just about when that privileged gets used in negative ways or ways that actively hurt others, where it becomes a problem. Kiki has a mom who still has wheels, so why not run with her, or allow her to pace her in one race? it's not like Sara is showing up to her state meet to play pacer while other high school girls aren't afforded that opportunity.
Sara is not blackmailing Kiki's high school coach for a spot on the varsity team, I believe she earned it herself.
Lastly--keep in mind that the nepo babies of the film industry are the source of frustrations because many of them are not talented at all. They are just handed movies and film roles. Every running "nepo baby" you've heard of is literally talented in their own right. Kiki has a PR of 5:06, very close to breaking 5. She's not getting a ticket into prestigious races with a 6:02 mile PR.
Well that went nowhere. Sara a DNF and her daughter not even close to 5. 5:20 doesn’t even get you into state sectionals in HS. Why is this in the news?? LoL
How is this even worth writing about? And what has she run in the past to make us think she can break 5?? 5:20 is another couple levels away. What a joke. Average HS time
You obviously didn't read the article (or see it linked on the homepage). She has a 5:06 mile PR run at altitude from August (as well as a 2:15 PB in the 800m). So with a 5:06 PB at altitude, breaking 5-minutes several months later at sea level seems like a very fair goal. She obviously had an off day, happens to the best of us.
She qualified for state meet as a sophomore? Wow!!!!!! In my state kids can compete in HS sports when they’re in 7th grade. Times for most girls in my hometown are pretty flat across grades, for girls. In other words, many girls peak in like 8th grade and there are many middle school girls on the podium, especially in xc. 5:20… YAWN

Well not according to Milesplit. Her 1600 time is 5:31. So this is a PB for her.

I obviously read the article and saw her form. Looks like you missed the obvious guerilla-marketing by PUMA with this article and Meltzer with the "matching PUMA" Nitro spikes. Sure, maybe she has an NIL deal as daughter of a pro runner or shameless.
Bruh Sarah is a nice lady. And her daughter is respectful and nice. Old men or whomever hating on them are complete losers. Talking crap about teenagers is pathetic.
