Only uncivilized people use words that refer to feminine hygiene products.
Douching refers to irrigating any body cavity with water, so it's not a feminine hygeine product. Additionally, women should not douche the vagina because doing so disrupts normal flora. The vagina is self-cleaning.
Last but not least, don't call it a "Thon." Only boneheads to that.
Stop with the “King” nonsense. Cheserek is a mediocre pro now. The Kings of the sport are Jakob, Cheptegei and Kipchoge. You disrespect them and make yourself look foolish by continuing to refer to Commoner Ches as royalty.
It is just his nickname. He was the king at UO and that's what we still call him. We know he is not the best runner.
Houston, is a nice event but certainly not a Major Marathon on the calendar. Also it is not a serious race event when they have a non binary division, there is no such thing, it is a complete bunch of nonsense. There is a mens division and a womans division and that is it
2:14 (if he had normal shoes) is so weak for a pro. America needs to get a collegiate stud (sub 13) to go to the marathon early
That's Connor Mantz - you can't do better than a 2x NCAA XC Champ
I was hoping for better from him today, but I think we shouldn’t panic yet. 61:12 is a decent enough showing given the mediocre weather, and he’s probably not training specifically for the half. If these results were indicative of potential in the marathon, then he’s ‘better’ than Shura Kitata, who finished 4 seconds slower than him. That would be the 2:04 Kitata who was the last guy to beat Kipchoge in London.
I post this way too often but it always is curious what happened to Ed Ches and his entire situation/career.
Never got citizenship, never got a real sponsor, and didn't have a real coach for so long (Haas is a bum). It is just so odd to me.
Looking at those facts on the surface one can make assumptions or guesses but at the end of the day it all is extremely odd. Regardless the talent is still clearly there, hopefully he can put something together at the right time on these days.
I just don't understand with what Ches did in college at Oregon how he doesn't sign a big money contract with Nike, go directly to train with NOP/BTC, and have citizenship in a year.
There must be alot more to that situation. Idk. I just can't understand it.
First of all, replying to your own post? Second, why can't Nike give it a rest? This charade of posing as a random fan to plug your brand is annoying. A 'real sponsor'? As opposed to Nike, right? Apparently he lives on income from his imaginary sponsor. The checks or deposits apparently clear.
By the way, hasn't Haas has coached more marathon winners than Shumacher? You can take a single team - let's say a widely disrespected (on this Board, anyway) group like NAZ - and score the last OT marathon XC style against any Nike club. I'll even let you score NOP, BTC, and OTCE together as one team. NAZ, despite lack of 'real sponsor', 'real shoes', or respect from you and many here, embarrased that group. Yes, their 3 top groups (I'll let you consider Rupp a scorer for the disbanded NOP) - all together - couldn't beat Rosario's gang. And you wished what, exactly, on Ches?
Even more offensive is the notion that this guy, or anyone, doesn't exist in any meaningful sense without US citizenship. Who says he's supposed to be a citizen of a particular country? Oh, that's right, you do. You even suggest Uncle Phil and his minions would have secured his acceptance by the only country that matters. I suppose bribing US officials and threatening Ed (with pulling his sponsorship, not letting him race, or whatever) could, in theory, have made it happen. This is what you assumed and hoped he would have done?

Yes, I’m aware of that. It was a clever and appropriate nickname when he was dominating in college but he graduated 6 years ago and the nickname no longer applies. Nicknames aren’t all meant to be permanent. They are often context-specific. When the context changes, the nickname should be retired.
Teshome Mekonen is not the next great hope for the USA men's 'Thon.
2:12 for a USA men's 'Thon is not what is needed to compete on the global stage.
Teshome Mekonen was the fasterst American, finishing 3rd, and running 2:11.05. More than a minute faster than the two Americans who only managed your unneeded 2:12s. You have hope for the Americans who lost to him, but none for Mekonen. You are a strange white duck out of water.
Was anybody at the race that could tell us what the conditions were like? They couldn’t have been that bad, considering Sisson set the AR. However, the men’s race seemed a little slow, I was expecting a sub-60 FTW and more Americans in the 61-62 range, as we usually see.
I ran the the half. Weather was definitely a bit warm and humid to start. Personally started sweating earlier than I normally do. Windy as well. There was a headwind no matter what the direction it felt like. Last 4 miles had the worst winds and last mile was a wind tunnel (which was awful). My friends who ran the marathon said the sun made it quite a bit warmer very quickly.
I think without the wind and lower temps Emily goes quite a bit faster.

You probably get confused when a large man has the nickname Tiny.

The problem with your hypothetical is the team stuff absolutely does not matter.
Top 3 does- which was Nike, Nike, Nike for men.
I get they have a bunch of 2:10 guys, the depth is solid, but (and I am sorry to say) they just do not matter.

Wesley Kiptoo can run fast without gloves.
Wearing the LRC singlet doesn't guarantee special enhanced magical speed powers.
Conner Mantz is not the next Ryan Hall or Galen Rupp.
King Ches needs better shoes.
I think Teshome Mekonen is someone to watch. Can you say categorically that he's NOT the next great hope? I don't think so. There was talk that he is capable of running a 2:07:30, but I think anybody the knows anything about running would not expect a marathon beginner would go off on his own and put 3 minutes on the lead pack. Instead, Mekonen ran with the lead pack in order to win and fell short by 30 seconds. That's a good effort. As for the future? - I think we need to wit and see. Come the next trials, I think he could be among the favorites.
I didn’t think the weather was all that bad. It was cool at the start and I didn’t notice the humidity until about 45 minutes in. I’m from Colorado so thought the humidity would affect me more but it was fine. When the sun came out after that for a minute it felt kinda hot and I felt bad for the marathoners, but that didn’t last too long. The wind wasn’t really a factor for me until that last straight that definitely felt like a wind tunnel, as you said. But I’m slow so maybe it was different for the elites.
