My question regarding Solinsky to Oregon. Whose job did he take? Why was there an opening in Dec?

After Jerry was hired he only named four assistant coaches - the NCAA allows for 6 total between the head coach and 5 assistants. He brought on Shalane for distance, Brian Blutreich for throws, and kept Curtis for sprints, and Seth Hensen for jumps, then added couple of ops people. So he never hired a 6th and final paid coach. I was told the reason was they overspent on salary for his assistants so they couldn’t hire anyone until the new year. Now that we are entering 2023, admin approved the addition of the final Coach.

Another note - people are making a big deal about the position only bringing in 75K. Oregon assistants all get a generous stipend from Nike to supplement their salary, plus generous performance bonuses. So Solinsky will be just fine financially.

Why do people keep saying this position only pays 75k? That was never in the job posting that I saw.

Agreed. Although it’s impressive how much knowledge can be found on this board, a professional in the running media should always go directly to the source. The comment above from the anonymous associate of an associate at Oregon is plausible and probably true (gratitude to that person for sharing). Even so, Rojo should contact Oregon officials directly. If not, what’s he going to say on his podcast: “I heard from an anonymous source on our message board…”

The wisdom of crowds. I put it here for a number of reasons.

1)I figured other people had the same question as me. So if I post it, they also get the answer.

2) I knew someone would know the answer so I wouldn't have to harrass anyone at Oregon.

3) I knew the answer would be instant versus harrasing people at Oregon at 6:30 am.

4) The messageboard is the heart of LetsRun.com. I want to emphasize that as much as possible.

Then do some work to improve the UI, get rid of the disinformation bots, and hold users accountable for the vile racist things they post.

For a public university, the likely scenario is that they got an assistant position funded, they had to advertise it, and at some point they contacted Chris about applying. Otherwise, the natural question would be: are Helen L-W or Ben T welcome to apply to the open position?
