Isn't that way cooler than saying 1600 meters or 1500 meters? Yeah baby, I run the 1760 yard race. Or, "I run the mile". Not the metric mile. Let's get imperial!

Because all tracks these days are 400 metres per lap.
And yet the NCAA runs the indoor mile and figures out how to measure it.

Why do elite high schoolers from around the globe run 1 MILE rather than 1600 meters or 1500 meters? It just makes sense . The 1760 yard was is far superior to any metric mile . Plus, If you make the track imperial you give the football field slightly more space.
When you talk to Joe Shmo on the street he does not know what a 1600 is. He knows not what a 1500 is. No no no. Joe Shmo know the mile.
Oh yeah , and just like in tennis there should be different surface track. Back in the old days back when Jim Ryun the dinosaur was the only man ever to run under 4 minutes in a REAL mile, he used to run on dirt, he used to run on clay, he used to run on gravel. Sometimes I heard there were little shrubs growing in the tracks. Peter Smell 👃 would run on the grass. I'm just saying, Nadal is the best player in the world he can play tennis on clay or grass or hard surface and track should be the same way and not boring. That's how we bring more spectators into the sport.
We should have more cool race events like 50x400 meter race where the guy who finishes the fastest wins. Get rid of aid stations too so more athletes pass out because that's entertaining.
